Hi, hope someone may be able to help me out with this question.. I have about 4, 200 to 250 gb IDE drives, I need to get them in an external setup, I got rid of my tower and am using a latop, but still want access to the storage space. Ideally I don't want 4 enclosures sitting around taking up...
google www.apple-deals.us and 'scam'. you get lots and lots of interesting information. Take it all with a grain of salt, but it doesn't look good.

As for maintenance, as of 10.4 it will occour the next time the machine is turned on if it misses a scheduled task... But if you want to force them these are the commands:
sudo /etc/daily
sudo /etc/weekly
sudo /etc/monthly

in safari, I honestly have no idea, however you could edit the hosts file to create bad dnd refrences for those sites.
the file resides in /etc/hosts
just make a site refrence your own machine
eg)
127.0.0.1 www.foobar.com
however, there is probably a better way to do this.

Not that easy unfortunately. If you want to check the antenna connection, you're gonna have to visit an apple store. In the new PBs the airport card is no longer user accessible.

1) Defrag: Done on the fly by the system
2) Adware: Not an issue
3)Ccleanr? Huh, oh well prolly nothing :p
Anywho, you could use a program like Mac Janitor, Onyx, Tinker Tool, or one of the many other similar programs to perform the periodic maintenance scripts. Or, you could run them from...
most of the maintenance you'll ever need on os x:
1) Periodiaclly backup the home folder
(since it's a portable I doub't you'll leave on 24/7 to auto run them so here are the maintenance commands - using the terminal)
2) sudo /etc/daily
3) sudo /etc/weekly
4) sudo /etc/monthly
and...
Ah, yes, it's a bit hidden... Apple doesn't want you messing w/ that stuff.
While in the finder click on Go -> Go To Folder. then type /etc into the box and press enter
then look for the hosts file
'Should' be just that easy

Both programs work just fine for me w/ dual audio stream ogm and mkv files. In vlc you can press the L key to change the language stream and the S ket to toggle the subtitke stream. I can't remember the commands on MPlayerOSX off hand though.

Easiest way to take a screen cap is cmd-shift-3 (I think) Drops the file on your desktop. In tiger it seems to default to a png file, i think panther was a pdf

Exposé... Hmm, think Alt-Tab on crack. Do a google search for Windows Expose, you'll find some apps that will kinda do what expose does, there's even a freeware app, though I can't for the life of me remember the name of the app. Exposé has completely changed the way I use my computer, it really...
The 15" does look like a sweet deal 512 ram, 80gig 5400rpm drive, last week that would have been an extra 300 together. Think I'll place my order later this week :)

Congrats, I got my first Mac last Feb, 12" iBook as well. Hands down the best laptop I've ever used.
As for an app, I would recommend QuickSilver, It's an excellent, easy to use launcher app that just makes the OS X Experience even better.
Not sure on the sleeve as I use an LL Bean...
Since char is already the same size as an int and just represented by an ascii value, wgy not try this
char c = 'y';
int x = (int)c;
the (int) casts the char value c as if it was an int.
... but then you would get the ascii value of the char in x....
Oh, and why not just uses the char...
perhaps...
int ascii;
ascii = static_cast<int>(book[n].sname[0]);
then sort off ascii...
Not sure if that's right, been a while since I've done c
Similar would work in java though :)

oh, oh, easy answer....
...
...
...
Nope!
Works just fine, and the iPod doesn't mind at all :)
Check my sig, my pc is the primary machine, but the iBook is used with the iPod every so often. It's a great external firewire drive!

Ok... been a long while since I did some pl/sql, but shouldn;t it be:
EMP.ENAME%TYPE not ENAME.EMP%TYPE
if EMP is the table
TABLE.COLUMN I think

Then again my memory is crap.
Yeah yeah... You're right. I threw me that it was coming up 129.99 on the web site, and not 149.99. They already took the first 20 off.
Oops , heh..
-Idler
From 2/15 to 2/16 it's actually $60 off. So if you buy one then it'll cost you only 69.94 + tax. Pretty sweet deal I think, and it's all instant.
And yeah, it is valid on-line too.

Just ordered a 12" iBook myself for the same kind of work. Java, C++, pluse web browsing, chat, music, oh and I need the battery life. Got it w/ a 40gig drive, 384mb mem, AirportExtreme card and the bluetooth adapter, not sure I'll use it but I don't want to not order it and find out I need it...
Yep, same drive that was on sale for 99.94 three weeks ago. We just got a shipment of about 35 of these yesterday. For that price, and the quality of the drive, they 'should' fly out of the store.

Ok, easy question... I hope.
I plan on placing an order tonight for either a 12" iBook or Powerbook
I know the powerbook is a more powerful machine, but that's no key, what is key is this:
Portability
Battery life
Durability
Basically I plan to load open office on it, for papers etc...
Ok, let's do the math...
Brother HL1440
TN-460 6k Page Toner: $70.89 .. 1.18 Cents/page
DR-400 20k Page Drum: $152.95 .. 0.76 Cents/Page
Total Cost / Page: $0.019 + Paper
Damn Good if you ask me.
HP 1012
Q2612A 2k Page Toner: $69.99 .. 3.5 Cents/page
No Separate Drum
Total Cost /...
Reason:
Cendyne went kaput. So we're getting rid of inventory. Most stores probably still have a bunch too, just ask, I know I still have a boat load of various cendyne drives. And don't worry, a holding company aquired what was left and will honor the warranties :)

ps: Depending...
Yeah, I know about the screen, I'm just picky. And my problems (at work) have ONLY been with the 12in model.
Mr. Baz, i agree with you, they are typically good machines, we've got a 14" centrino model that is beautiful. Nice screen, excellent battery life, and runs cool. I think the problem...
Ok, I hate to do this since I work at Staples and sell the Averatec laptop in question.
1) The screens are fairly low quality, and easily washes out.
2) Heat dissapation seems to be an issue. I can't get the damn laptop (tried 2 so far) to complete more than 2 successful loops of the Staples...
If the slowdown is at all resolutions, that does support the theory of the cpu being the bottleneck. An excuse to upgrade maybe :) Otherwise, make sure nothing else is running when playing, drop aa and af... Can't think of anything else at the moment.
