I recall back in the day modifying a driver or two, to add lines to its .inf allowing support of a video card that was released after the driver was. Either my memory is getting worse, or the 'how' of this has changed a lot, as I'm drawing a blank on trying that, now.
Specifically, I'm running...
Feels like it's been a day since I've posted here, but looking for some advice! Per the subject - I'm trying to find some ram for my system. SEEMS like a simple question, although here is the catch - I'm running a Shuttle XPC, with an H-series Intel chipset, so I cannot use XMP profiles. The...
As above. While I know the conventional answer is that the 750 Ti doesn't have the horsepower to do it, that really only applies to modern games.
I play some relatively ancient games, that would have no issue with quadrupling (or more) their resolution and result in no performance difference...
Tried to access the TrueCrypt site, today, and it now states:
Uhhhh...wow. Anyone know what's up with that? I can't find any news on the TrueCrypt developer(s) giving up - would have thought that would be front-page news SOMEWHERE...
So I thought I was being clever, and set up a distinct worker for each of my GPUs in my system, with a batch file (distinct command prompt) to kick off each one.
It worked well! One GPU was plugging away at nearly 400 khash/s, the other around 300 khash/s, I check my numbers in the pool and...
For those wondering...
Ran a few hours of testing with a new GeForce 750 Ti on two different slots on my mobo. Same cudaminer config, same (slight) overclock.
In a PCI-E 16x slot that runs at 1x, the card was averaging ~200 khash/s. I did try a LOT of different configurations for this...
Has anyone heard or seen of one?
It *should* be easily possible, but all the manufacturers seem to be sticking with dual-slot coolers.
Frustrating! I want to STUFF MY SYSTEM FULL OF THESE CARDS! Only have a couple double-wide PCI-E slots, though.
There are some links in a few threads here and there, but I'm not really finding a good "how to" that is any newer than 2011 - so missing a lot of the advances in CUDA-based mining (for instance).
Such would be welcome!

16gb Corsair Dominator GT DDR3-2133 ram
Used Corsair ram (I upgraded to 32gb Dominator Platinum). DDR3 2133, 9-11-10-27 at 1.5v. That's correct, btw - this is actually 1.5v, so a perfect match for Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge systems that don't like 1.6 or 1.65v. Original retail...

FS: used Corsair H70 all-in-one CPU watercooling kit, with original mounting hardware, box, etc.
Stock H70 does not include fans, but I'm including two Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120mm fans I used with it for push-pull cooling configuration. Used it for about a year without issue, upgraded to...

Razer Deathadder 3.5G infrared sensor 5-button optical mouse
Used a few months, in 'like new' condition still - switched back to my old Boomslang 2007 CE as the green LEDs on that goes better with the new Deathstalker keyboard I picked up, so no longer need this mouse.

Sort of a 'moving sale', in that I'm cleaning out a cabinet of some hardware I have to help 'stage' our house. Not moving YET, but, heck, get this all moved out and it not only saves space, but saves me from having to actually MOVE all the stuff once we are heading out...

OCZ 30gb Vertex-Turbo SSD + 500gb Seagate Momentus XT SSD/HDD Hybrid
Two great drives that work great together! The reason I'm selling these together is because they work well together - the 30gb SSD is, indeed, pretty small...but plenty...
Say I have a C: drive that is an SSD, but a D: drive that is not.
I've installed Folding @ Home on my C: drive, with the data files for it (the things that are constantly read/written...working area, logs, etc) are configured to be on the D: drive.
Assuming I've locked the Windows desktop...
As above - I'm looking to replace the Scythe S-FLEX fans I'm currently using on a Corsair H70, and since I have plenty of room in the case, am thinking about 38mm fans instead of the current 25s.
Options I'm trying to get more data on:
SilenX 120x120x38
Yate Loon 120x120x38 (low)

So I'm pretty handy with Photoshop CS5, and use vector-based shapes for drawings...oooohhh...extensively. Manipulation of vectors, editing points and curves within vectors, etc.
Lots of time in that. Lots and lots and lots of time. VERY good at it.
So I wanted to try my hand at making a...
I have a Wacom Intuous, as I do a lot of design work...mostly layout, and work with vector shapes. And painting touch-ups of things (which the tablet does a great job allowing for a more 'organic' look to modifications).
However, I'd love to be able to draw on it...and I really can't. Never...

Got a real weird email saying my credit card had been billed for Everquest 2, which I don't have an account for.
In fact, only the last few digits of the credit card were visible, and they weren't a card I had.
When I went to the SOE site, I found a phone number to call...now, the thing...
So, I'd installed a Corsair H70 a while back, and was doing alright with it, but wanted to improve performance some. I had the bump mounted in the back of my case with my case's standard rear fan blowing over it (it's an Antec 300, so one of the Antec three-speed fans). I wasn't really happy...
Using a Corsair H70, which I guess I'm not TOO over-excited about.
Anyway, running an I7-2600K at 4.4ghz on all four cores, about 1.4v to the CPU*. Currently, my hottest core is 77C (Folding @ Home maxing it out all day), but Core Temp reports that it's peaked at 80C. Must have just been...

Looking for a quick opinion, here, since Steam has a 'complete edition' on sale for 50% off today.
The setting SOUNDS interesting - wife and I are huge fans of that era. The 'Nero Wolfe' TV series one of our favorites, fans of the 'hard boiled' detective novels, etc.

IMHO, the most likely reason for that - especially the gate to Morrowind - is that this is a candidate for DLC.
Those who've played Skyrim know that fairly significant events have happened in Morrowind recently to the period of time Skyrim is set in, and the effects...
Question on this. On the PC, lockpicking in Skyrim feels...oddly implemented. That is, there is an option for turning the lock with hitting either 'A' or 'D'...but there doesn't seem to be any reason to. You touch the button, the lock immediately starts turning. Let go of the button, lock...
As above. So I finally gave up trying to play a combat character in the game (WAY too boring), or a mage character (WAY too powerful), and went with a thief. I guess I liked Deus Ex: HR a lot, so the sneaking around...hiding behind rocks after sniping an enemy at range almost holding my breath...
As above.
So far I've created 3 characters in Skyrim, and got them up to level 4...roughly a short point after killing the first dragon...
...and I can't tell you how boring it was to do as a melee character vs magic characters. Of course, the magic characters feel ALMOST unbalanced...
First off, in the UI, make sure to click the 'Advanced' button and enable the more advanced features, there. FXAA, for example.
Next, you'll want to tweak some .ini file settings.
The Skyrim .ini file is located in the folder:

Soooo...is that a rock...? Dirt? Or a tree stump he's sitting on?
Screenshot is using 'ultra' quality on the PC, so should represent the absolute apex of graphical quality in Skyrim.
It's...uhhh...kinda ugly.
I currently have a rather cheap (cannot SLI) P67 mobo, and I was thinking of switching to a Z68.
Cost isn't particularly a problem for the project, but time is. I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of an OS reinstall, re-installing and re-configuring all my various apps, etc...

That adds another card to the pile for nVidia solutions that can do 'surround gaming' on a single card.
Can't imagine what the power demands of this thing are, though...yikes!

On the Sandy Bridge chips, you can set core multipliers for each core based on usage of 1 to 4 cores...IE., 39/38/37/36.
I assume most, when overclocking, overclock with all cores set to the same speed? Or do people try maxing out one core...then two cores...then three cores, etc...

Steam is running a 'Halloween' sale.
Looks like this is already posted over in [H]ot|Deals, but I know many don't regularly tread over there.

As above.
Motherboards for Intel's Sandy Bridge chips have BIOS options to set CPU multiplier per core usage levels.
IE., 39/38/37/36 - when only one core is in use, multiplier is '39'; when two are in use, multiplier is '38; etc.
Question is - how does this interact with...
Brent mentioned in another thread the song that appears in the DX trailer - 'My World' by Transmissions. That got me thinking about the soundtrack overall - it's very good, but it's very short.
