    PrimeGrid Recognition Thread

You all are definitely doing better than me. The best I've done is found two AP23s. One of the reasons I started running AP27 again (besides running it in the pentathlon last year) is because of the PPD. I have yet to run any GPU project on Primegrid which even comes close to the points AP27...

Did Drivers Save The Radeon 8500?

I had a Radeon 8500 and used it for quite a while. Never once had a problem with it and it ran everything I needed it to. I didn't replace it until the GeForce 7600GT. I will say that the Radeon 7500 AIW was actually a faster card in a number of games (a friend of mine had one and he had me...

intel 13th and 14th gen xx900 and xx700 may have defective cores causing crashes in gaming

Damage control. Even if the issue isn't Intel's fault Intel will be blamed for it by at least some people which makes for really bad press and damage to the company and brand which goes far beyond the cost of RMAs.

Her face sure isn't. Based on the changes in her face from the first to the second game it looks like she put on 40+ lbs. And had plastic surgery to make her jaw even bigger.

9950X and 9950X3D is going to be terrific.

The most likely reason the x3d chips were released later is due to yields. The CCDs with the cache tend to be some of the best silicon due to the fact they need to run cooler with much more stringent voltages while still being able to clock relatively high. It takes time to stockpile those...

Can i smoke in the same room where is pc?

People have been smoking around computers for decades and it doesn't have any reduction in their ability to work. As I stated, the only thing you might need to do is clean it out more often. Smoke does leave residue and that residue will collect dust easier. Look up pictures of computers which...

Can i smoke in the same room where is pc?

No, it's not going to hurt the computer. At worst you'd need to clean the dust out more often.

    Horizon Forbidden West

In the first game what it looks like is they took the child Aloy head and made it bigger and left it at that. Her face looks like it's still 4 years old with a bunch of baby fat and no maturing. It's been a while since I played the first game but at least in some of the screen shots for the...

The ones I give a shit about do. And in some cases they run a hell of a lot better than they ever did in Windows.

    Best 360mm AIO Cooler?

I have no experience with the 360 but I did buy and install the Frozen Edge 240 this past week. I had a little spare cash and needed an upgrade from my air cooler and it cost me $44 with tax. The only semi-recent experience with water cooling was an Enermax 240 AIO I got for practically free...

    Radiator bolts for slim fans?

This is the exact same thing I've been doing for years. I have yet to not find what I was looking for or at least something else which would work. I also tend to buy extras and a couple other things because I know I'll end up needing it eventually.

Ubisoft's The Crew is shutting down 31st March 2024 and will be unplayable after that because it is online only.

I'm no fan of either company but what you describe has nothing to do with feudalism, techno or otherwise. Owning and selling a product on a marketplace is far different than feudalism. Under feudalism Apple and Amazon would own the product made by you and allow you a certain number to sell while...

Net Neutrality expected to be reinstated after officials vote on 4/25/2024

These "rules" aren't legislation. They are imposed upon us by an un-elected group of bureaucrats with delusions of grandeur overstepping the bounds of the powers given to them by Congress. One of the biggest problems with "net neutrality" in government form is the fact that it has never been...

Ubisoft's The Crew is shutting down 31st March 2024 and will be unplayable after that because it is online only.

Under feudalism peasants were effectively owned by the landowners, also known as nobles. Most couldn't even move without permission from the local noble. Peasants worked the land and were allowed to keep a portion of what they made. Said portion was determined by the nobles/landowners. I have...

    Core 0x23

I don't normally run F@H on CPUs except during things like the event in January. I'll run BOINC stuff on them from time to time, mostly when a little extra heat is nice. The 6750xt was the main reason I stopped running F@H. A year ago it was getting 3.2 million PPD+ and by the time of the...

    Core 0x23

One of the reasons I quit running F@H is because of the obvious points issues. In the last run in January it took a Ryzen 2600x, 1050TI, RX570, Ryzen 5800x and a Radeon 6750xt to equal the points the 6750xt was putting out by itself a year previous. All three GPUs were producing noticeably fewer...

Global sales of XBox are so bad developers wonder if supporting the console is worth it for them

There used to be these things called private servers which is where the vast majority of games were run. They were paid for and run by players and they were happy to do so. However, this left way too much control out of the hands of the publishers (and not able to charge huge amounts for maps)...

Trust Newegg reviews for NVMe SSD? - lower cost or "big name" like Samsung?

In my experience avoid QLC drives at all costs unless it's a write once (and you are ready to wait forever for everything to get written) and read only drive after being written. I needed a cheap boot drive for the media server I built my son and grabbed a 512GB Crucial QLC NVME drive. I was...

    PG Einstein Challenge: who's in?

I wish I had more than 6 cores out of 8 on my 5800x I could toss at this. Even if I fired it up on my 2600x I doubt it would finish a work unit before the event ended.

The Verge: Westworld showrunners are creating a Fallout show for Amazon

The Rings of Power was utter shit. If they didn't break the lore they completely ignored it instead. Beyond that for something with such a huge production budget everything looked like cheap shit and the acting wasn't any good. No matter how you look at it it was bad. Despite the fact it's been...

    Tour de prime 2024

Windows 11 24H2 to enforce HW requirement

Is it even about age? MS log ago forgot the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" philosophy. Or more likely decided to ignore it because shuffling around settings and UI elements makes it look like something is being done.

    SSD prices increasing

I snagged one right before the end of the year and right before the prices really started climbing again. It's currently $45+ more than the price when I ordered mine. Even then the price had already gone up a bit from the lowest point back in mid to late November.

    Boinc Games Sprint starts tonight

It looks like GW is the only GPU available project. I had Gamma Ray GPU originally selected and I got the message there's no GPU work for it. I even changed to grab GW GPU work and it says it has no work for my 1050Ti. A pity something changed and BOINC no longer sees my RX570. I suspect it...

Anyone have experience with segfaults halting the boot process?

If the memory was bad and caused errors, it's likely the install, OS and otherwise, is completely hosed. Bad memory causes errors in which those errors are written to disk. It was unlikely the install was going to be saved from the beginning and will need to be wiped and redone.

    2024 Game Drought?

About the only game on that list that I'm looking forward to is Horizon: Forbidden West. I'm a Star Wars fan but there's no way I'm getting excited about any Star Wars game before it's released.

Annual Folding@Home bigadv EOL 5th Anniversary Challenge

There are a lot of work units out there with very different PPD numbers on the same hardware. My production is way down from a year ago because of this. It's anything but. It is a great way to try out new kernels without having to risk hosing your whole system since if a new kernel doesn't work it's an extremely simple and quick change to revert to the previous kernel and have everything working again. I keep a few kernels installed with...

Ubisoft Wants You To Be Comfortable Not Owning Your Games

I don't think anyone has pointed out that the real, long term danger of subscription services for gaming is the ability for the large corporations to crush and eliminate competition. This includes direct competition in the form of games as smaller studios would obviously not have a subscription...

    Partition vs multiple drives?

It's mainly up to you but I do both. I have multiple drives and I have drives with partitions. Dual booting Linux/Windows requires this as I have both OSes on one NVME but also have partitions on the HDD as well for each OS. Even then I still have additional partitions on the NVME. Things which...
