Overkill much? I hope you're using this for gaming on a plasma or something. Also, how are you controlling the cooling? I have a 890gxm-g65 myself and the SYSFAN is only 3-pin. I can only control the fan speed through bios (undervolting) and adding resistors to the fans themselves.
Burned out the mosfets on my MSI-890GXM and am currently running a 785 which is adequate but unfortunately no USB3 support. Would love an upgraded mATX board to play with.
Any thought to moving that SSD elsewhere? I've often thought about doing this -- just wire in a 4GB flash drive that'll boot into XBMC Live. You'll lose remote desktop, but for a HTPC it shouldn't matter too much as long as you can still connect to your WHS (never tried WHS before, don't know...
My HTPC setup uses this case as well. Fits a full size, full height video card, though you might have some issues with the longer cards -- I had a 5750 in mine with no problems before my atom crapped out and I had to upgrade boards -- 4290 on-board graphics now. NOTE: the case does not have...
I considered the vulcan earlier, but my cardboard mockup made me think that it was going to be way large for use as a portable rig. Any thoughts?
Nice look with the feet. How are you routing the LED power -- through the circular hole, drilled into the case, and under the rad to a spare 4-pin...
Regarding a bluetooth dongle, you can pick a really small one up from dealextreme (sku 11866) for $1.80 shipped. I use them myself for side projects as I play around with my arduino and they're nice little units, though I typically end up desoldering the LED (can get pretty annoying). Small...
That's part of it. Primarily, though, my backup server stores parity volumes of movies rather than the whole movie. For optimization purposes, 50mb seems to work. Because the backup server serves multiple systems, I try to reduce the space dedicated toward non-essential items (i.e. my digital...
In both my HTPC and NAS, movies are packed in 50MB archives, stored in individual folders per movie (i.e. C:\Movies\ contains N directories -- one per movie -- named by title, year, source, and format).
XBMC handles all the title sorting for me (excludes "the" when sorting by title, but...
EDIT: CrazyCuz2k beat me to it.
You didn't mention it, but which case are you going to use? My current build uses GD05B, which I recommend, though you'll be limited in aftermarket coolers due to your optical drive.
I'll be interested to see how the chrome knobs affect that black walnut face. Thus far, it's the only thing on this build I'm not completely in awe of.
I totally dig the look of the rears. Have been looking for something similar for my own setup (similar type of layout with work table behind couch). Any suggestions on something similar (those are definitely out of my price range, something cheaper)? I use black Monitor 70s as my fronts, CS2...
Shucks. I'm going to try my hand at this same build and hopefully have some results for you guys. Difference: I'm planning on this being just a light-gaming build (primarily to store my 1080p movies/tv shows). My HDTV (samsung 52a750) has 8ms lag @1080p so it's not like I'm expecting awesome...
Just FYI, there was a thread somewhere on this forum discussing 890GX boards dying. Personally I'm looking to pick up a microatx board (MSI 890GXM-65) -- any better boards out there?
Are you worried at all about structural integrity when you sand down the corners? You're going to end up bringing in the breaking strength at the bend points, significantly. Very nice progress thus far.
Very clean, and I am a fan of the black/white design, in general. I was going to comment that the white area in front really hides the white optical drive, but I just realized that it's no longer there. One nitpicky thing: when you switched to white on the right side, though, the door-to-case...
Didn't see this posted, but when is this "rev 2" supposed to be available? Also, is this some radical new design or are we talking the mods suggested in this forum (vent holes, 3-pc shell, case posts, etc)?
