I've got a XFX Double D Radeon HD 7850 2GB. I purchased in May from Newegg. I have not registered it or overclocked it but they are supposed to overclock very well. I have all the box, documentation, and goodies. I have a need to use CUDA which I can't do with my ATI card. I want to trade for a...
Well I guess I'll scrap that card. It definitely has proven to be crappy. Now I'm looking for a PCIe card with 4 SATA ports. I see a card with SIL3124. Will this be a decent replacement or is it going to be just as bad?
The Silicon Image 3114 has BIOS version 5.4.03 which was what the most current rev I could find online. This afternoon I will try on a live CD. Thanks for the direction.
There are no other PCI devices in the system. To test, I swapped out the PCI -> 4x SATA for a PCIe (x1) -> 2x SATA and the read and write speeds on the PCIe card are great. I have been sure to only have one card in at a time. I've tried the PCI -> SATA card on 2 of the 3 PCI slots.
In...
I will validate if I have the most up-to-date drivers and BIOS available for the motherboard. I was having a hard time finding that yesterday. What is interesting is I am using a Silicon Image 3114 and getting these very slow reads and writes.
The only other card in the computer is an...
My goal is to get 6x 2TB in a software raid using FLEXraid. I have 4 of the drives hooked up to a PCI -> 4port SATA card and the other 2 (and my boot drive) are plugged into my Abit IP35-E motherboard. I have what I believe are the most current drivers for the SATA card...
This problem all stems from the fact I want to change a drive letter of a drive that is NOT my boot drive, which should be quite easy. I reinstalled Windows last night on the same drive it was on before (C drive). Before installing, I detached all my other drives to avoid confusion. The install...
I think Chops is right but I believe I can buy just the LCD for about $50 instead of a new LCD and digitizer combo for $100. Does anyone know for sure?
Also, according to the bottle, my rubbing alcohol is 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water. I don't see any mention of glycerine but i'm not...
Also, to anyone else jumping in this thread, please contribute constructive advice. If you think you might be a prick or have nothing to offer except negative criticism, please refer to my edit in the OP.
There is no "normal process" to dislodging gunk stuck between the backlight and LCD. I am very confident that it was the alcohol that actually caused the damage, not heat from the oven. I'm apt to borrow a thermocouple from school and demonstrate that an iPod left in a hot car is subjected to...
I wasn't clear in the original post. The first two pictures are from after I "baked" it in rice the first time hoping it was just water stuck between the LCD and the backlight.
The second set of pictures are from after I soaked in alcohol and then "baked" it a second time, which is why I still...
I was implying that the non-operating temperature is a function of the lithium ion battery inside. Since I removed it, I was not worried about the temperature. For better or worse I have left my ipod classic in the my car in the sun and it reached MUCH higher temperatures than the non-op...
I did take it apart. I soaked the LCD assembly in its own bath. You can not remove the backlight from the LCD without rendering the entire thing useless.
People who don't like to pay full price and don't automatically assume everything they read on the internet is true?
A valid concern but those are operating temperatures. Mine was just enjoying a bit of a baking with the battery removed.
Edit for know-it-alls and assholes: Listen up all you turds and thread crappers. I posted this as an informative what NOT TO DO for anyone that has this problem. According to this article right here, http://www.pcworld.com/businesscente...7_million.html there are 30 million iphone/ipod touches...
I'll be posting pictures and an explanation in its own thread so someone will be able to find it if they are contemplating this but the short answer is DON'T DO THIS.
His english skills may be far superior but, unfortunately, his math skills are not.
New iPod (8GB)
200$ / ($10/hr) = 20 hours of work
Old iPod
New battery ($12) + rubbing alcohol ($1.19) = $13.19 or about 1 and a half hours of work.
Does anyone know if rubbing alcohol will damage...
I purchased an iPod touch 1G 16gb off of craigslist for $30 because someone spilled stuff in it. When the backlight is on, you can see whatever he spilled is still stuck inside the screen. I've removed the battery and I want to soak the whole thing in rubbing alcohol to clean off all of the...
I'm parting with my A7217A. This was a craigslist find from a couple of months ago that I no longer want to deal with. There is cosmetic damage to the bezel and I removed the anti-glare screen but there is absolutely no damage at all to the glass. There is an area where the picture has a...
Like title says. I'm looking for a complete, working computer that will fit somewhere in my car. Needs to be capable of running XP and iTunes. I'm also looking for an audio card that has an RCA out so I can connect it to the auxiliary jack on my deck in car. Thats about it. Thanks for looking!
I've been trying to get rid of the green splotch using the "landing" option to know avail. It definitely affects the location and intensity of the splotch but can only eliminate it completely in the corner of the screen. The bottom-center is still green. Is this a degauss thing for sure? Any...
I removed the anit-glare film and it looks good as new! Now I just need to get my hands on a degaussing wand. Anyone have any experience or a link to a reasonably priced wand?
So I picked up the HP OEM of the FW900 (the A7217A) and drove the thing from Colorado to Arizona then to California. Along the way, my friend managed to put 3 HUGE gauges in the screen. I'm devastated. Can I replace this? Can I sand this off? What can I do? Also, the bottom left quadrant has an...
It was!!!! I'm the proud new owner of an A7217A. It was only $50. Now I must transport it 1,200 miles from Colorado to California. This will be interesting. Good eye, evilsofa.
I've been dreaming of the GDM-FW900 monitor for a while now. I'm driving through Colorado on my way home and found a craigslist ad for what MIGHT be an HP OEM of the FW900. He didn't post a model number but its listed as a 24 inch and is similar to what I've seen in pictures. He said I can come...
Thanks for the advice. I actually would prefer to have a TN panel because it has the fastest response times. Poor blacks and inaccurate color reproduction has almost no bearing in my video game playing. Master Chief doesn't care what color he is. Dominance is colorblind.

They both have HDMI inputs and 2ms GTG response times with internal speakers. They both satisfy my requirements of very small response times for Halo 3 playing and...
I'm in the middle of trying to convert my xbox component video cable into a component + VGA cable. There's a good chance that I'll end up with a cable that doesn't do either but I'm willing to take that risk. I chopped the end off of an SVGA cord I had lying around and was planning on soldering...
