You'll need a copy of the H200 SBR which I don't have. Some Googling might get you a copy. You can grab the H200 firmware from the Dell site that has a batch file to do all the flashing in it. I believe once you flash the SBR and restart, the Dell batch file should take care of flashing the H200...
Here is a good read about which and why. Are there any markings on the 8087 connector end? It might say controller or something like that. It still could be something wrong with the card but it looks a lot like having the wrong cable.
SAS to SATA cables: Forward or Reverse Which, Where, Why
The name not changing isn't a problem. Some of mine have changed during the flashing process and some haven't. As for the drives not showing, you probably have reverse breakout cable and not a forward.
I've got a 2621xm with an old copy of IOS on it but this is beyond me. What version of IOS would I need? I guess if I could get this setup, I've got an older Intel V8 platform with dual x5355 xeons and 8gb of memory I could throw on it for an ESXi sandbox for you guys.
I have an Untangle box and a pfsense box but my Untangle sits infront of my pfsense box. I like having all the content/malware/spam filtering of Untangle but I like pfsense more for routing and it does my caching.
HP 1800-24G. I've got 1 and it's the coolest running switch I have. Touching it, it's hardly above room temp. I had it running in my garage last summer for something I was working on. It would get to about 115-120 in there and it never had a problem. It's about 72-73 in my home office where...
Arg, I bit on the 20 dollar G9 deal from BuyDig and stopped by my local BBY and picked up 2 MX Revolutions. I've already got 3 but can't go wrong with having cheap backups.
I've got a Dell PE 1950 with dual 2.66Ghz Xeons and 16GB of memory running ESXi 4.0. I've got a bunch of Server 2008, 2003 R2, Ubuntu, etc VM's for testing and running my home network.
Thanks, it's really 3 different workstations I have there but I use it mostly for learning. I've got tons of different VM's running on my ESXi box, so it allows me to have several remote sessions open and and any documentation I need for what I'm doing.
The Ikea Galant is very nice and works...
Yea, I picked one up quite a while ago when I started to build my first SAN. Switched it out for the Areca cards before I even used it. I have 2 VelociRaptors sitting ontop of the box I picked up and I was going to stick them on that card in one of my systems, just haven't got around to...
Follow up of my entire rack
Top to bottom:
Fiber Patch Panel
48-Port Cat5e Patch Panel
HP 5406zl (2 24-port PoE 10/100/1000 blades and 1 24-port SFP module)
HP 2900-24G
HP 2900-24G
(Open slot for the HP 1800-24G sitting on the floor next to the rack, only on floor until I pull cable...
I have done this. I don't have it setup this way anymore but I did have a virtual pFsense box that my WAN came into which fed over to a virtual Untangle box. I did this under ESXi 3.5 and everything worked great. Only thing you really need to know, is make sure the vswitch for Untangle allows...
Ockie will love this. Only the drives and RAID cards for now. It's 40 1.5TB 7200.11 drives and 2 Areca 1680D-IX-24 with 4GB cache. Will bring total space to 80TB advertised.
It's a lot better than what I did. I took a Network Engines ns6400 and I'm using that for my pfsense box. The fans were super loud so I removed all of them and put a 120mm fan ontop of the cpu heatsink. The top no longer fits of course but it's super quite now and runs 2-3F above room temp...
And how far did you go over? Charter did the same crap and put a 250GB/month limit on. I had to cancel and move to 7.1Mbps Verizon DSL. FIOS coverage stops, I kid you not, a half mile down the street from my house.
Asterisk can do this easy, then you'll just need a VoIP provider. You can look at rolling your own Asterisk install or go for something a little easier like trixbox or AzkoziaPBX.
You'll find a wide range of VoIP providers out there. I use a company called Teliax and they've been great for...
You can find Software Restrictions when editing a GPO under Windows Settings | Security Settings both for User and Computer configurations. There are a couple different types of rules you can use, but a path rule is one and is what I use for this. You create a new path rule and disallow the...
A little off the topic but is your network AD? If so, do what I did. I put a Software Restriction policy in place blocking all the locations those stupid programs can run. Any time a new one comes out, I just throw that path into the policy and don't have to worry about it again. It's worked...
I agree with Ockie. You're going to spend a chunk of money on what you're looking to have done. Why not just spend that money on the tools you'd need to do the job. Then it's done how you want and you'll end up with the tools.
