This may be a silly question but if I were to compile a game, upload it to my own server and have a direct download link (so separate from Steam or other similar services), then how exactly would Unity know how many downloads or installs of that game have been made?
We only live one time - something that people really seem to just ignore. And (unpaid) commuting takes up way too large a chunk of it. It's not a matter of moving closer either many companies aren't in desirable locations. And what may be desirable now, might not be in 5 years (i.e bachelor life...
Would this work well for virtual desktop? I have some sciatic issues popping up (yay aging!) and am trying to work a little on the ground with a VR headset so my back can relax, but the sweet spot on the 8kx isn't as large as I'd like - too much head turning!
The dollar is stable day-to-day but not year-to-year - and it's not some marginal amount either, but by an amount that heavily eclipses the average pay raise. Bitcoin is also stable, just on a much smaller time frame of minute-to-minute but not day-to-day. But since a send and swap to USDC (or...

Over the years I've come to realize that the drive for financial independence comes not really from the desire not to work, but from the desire to return to youth. Work is just something that happens to not only get in the way of that, but it something that is only part of the real clown world...
Look, by the time that gets figured out - Ethereum will likely either be $0 or some value far exceeding today's and far less volatile. If you don't want to gamble or speculate before then, that's fine and I can respect that. But don't act surprised like "it's expected" we should able to predict...
Because fundamentally they are not ponzi schemes.
The ponzi scheme argument is fully, and I mean fully, countered by the fact that you need the native token to pay for any transaction on the network. Let's take Ethereum for example: I send you Ethereum (or since you hate volatility, I will send...
I played MMORPGs 2 decades ago and got a glimpse of what the crypto markets would be like: any unregulated markets are going to have plenty of that. Actually, scratch that: /r/wsb proves the same thing happens in regulated markets.
It's no one's responsibility but your own, with what you do...
So you quoted a post I made where I said "in a few years", within less than a year?! Is that some kind of response to Bitcoin being back above $20K despite what all you crypto haters were so sure would finally destroy it? "This time is different" - works both ways. ;)
I've been developing in...
Also add VR to this. AMD has worse frame timing so VR will feel worse with an AMD GPU than Nvidia at identical FPS.
But otherwise the 7900XTX easily. It matches/exceeds the 4080 in raster performance and is $200 cheaper.

This is getting too easy now.
Ok Newegg I didn't really need to know that.
The Gigabyte model even has a "limit 5 per customer" that you can add to cart. To you scalpers - get ready to dump at loss and enjoy your 13% Ebay/PP or 15% restocking fees. :)
Gigabyte Aorus in stock at NE. Although at $1800 it's one the more expensive models. At least it's not a Strix.

I think I'm...
Since the 4090 has no problem selling I don't expect that to happen. But if production costs and inflation really are responsible for what's going on, we may see cards like the 4080 disappear entirely leaving a monumental performance gap between a $2000 4090Ti "Titan" and the 4070Ti and lower...
I think Nvidia pushed it too hard by trying to price multiple cards above $1000. It only worked for the 3080Ti because its performance was near identical to the 3090, there was mining craze going on, and the economy was still riding the high of a 12 year long bull run. The 4080 FE has been in...
4090 is short in supply, 4080 seems readily available. You can even add a 4080FE to cart for pickup right now BestBuy SoCal (Mission Viejo). Edit: And from what I'm reading it has been for a few days now.
GTX 580 was $500.
The GTX 680 was also $500. Although it wasn't the halo card, it was still 50% faster than the 580.
Things got a bit weird after Titan at $1000. Titan replaced the halo card, but at least it was its own brand. Either you got a Titan for $1200, or you got the Ti for for $700...
There are too many shackled within the constraints and expectations of society (and to an extent, the economy) has successfully imposed on them.
As much as I appreciate OP's effort here, I don't think too many will follow this lead. The new normal is $1300 for the mid-range offering. And it's...
Is there any info on how many units ship and sell? You'd think with Ethereum mining being dead the market should still be FLOODED with RTX 3000s GPUs, but there aren't many to be seen. I'm starting to think that either PC building is way more mainstream than I believe, or inventory produced (per...
I haven't played any games I think over 2 months now. So I don't mind sticking with my 3080Ti FE, and eventually back to a 3090 if I can figure out how to watercool it in a Loque Ghost case.
But if GPUs are going to continue being stupidly difficult to get at launch this hobby might be dead to...
It's hard to fathom that once upon a time I was able to pencil / volt mod and unlock a $200 7900 GS to reach $500 flagship 7900 GTX performance... without camping out!
The only two games I've hopped on at all over the past few months: The Outer Worlds and Planetside 2 both will run 7680 x 4320 (with DSR enabled) if I select that resolution. I also remember running it in Alien Isolation some time ago as well. It definitely works: I get a slightly sharper image...
There's also running 8K downsampled on a 4K monitor, which you can easily do with Nvidia DSR factors. And it does look better/sharper from the few times I've tried it on my own 4K monitor. It's not a huge difference, but it's definitely there. But my 3090 really chokes when doing it.
And then...
I would love to see some 8K results, since 4K is where the 4090 really shines against the 3090/Ti. If the performance gap continues to increase with resolution as it does up to 4K, maybe we have the first truly 8K capable card (assuming it's like 70-80% faster in 8K res).
The jump in performance of these over the 3090/3090Ti is more impressive than I expected. 50-65% at 4K is a pretty big leap. It makes the 3090Ti FE listed at $1100 a bad deal. Fortunately, I don't really game anymore but for all those that do - enjoy your 4090s!
Cloud Imperium Games Glassdoor rating: 3.2 (which is pretty bad for a software company - I personally would not consider anything under a 4)
Seems like they have a high turnover rate which could explain why SC has been taking so long. It probably takes at least 6 months for a competent engineer...
I feel the same way. There was time when my FPS was peaking around 30-50 (without VRR) maxed out as whatever was considered high resolution at the time. And so the jump to 60 fps the following gen was very noticeable. And then even from 60 to say, 80-100. And then VRR came along and made...
I can't stand that because then it's also easier for them to see. 165fps with full details, foliage detail, particles, etc. Is at an obvious at a disadvantage compared to 256 colors, no particles, etc.
My 3 year old son played a little bit of Geometry Dash the other day. Oh the joy a small child gets from hitting the same spikes 5 seconds into the level over and over again. I'm a little but jealous of fascination and interest in just well, everything. Me on the other hand at 35 now - I find...
Things have been misleading for a while now because most of the reviews out there are "stock vs stock" and tend to ignore things like power draw (although they are reported). The TDP jumped pretty massively from the 2080Ti to the 3090. When both are operating at about the same power draw (let's...
I think we've about hit the peak of what humanity is capable of when it comes to high end silicon based computer hardware. CPU performance has stagnated for quite some time now - it's actually kind of sad how little its progressed since Sandy Bridge, and now we're only going to see a 25%...
