Currently have:
CORSAIR - Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB (2PK x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 C16
Was thinking of adding an identical set to populate all 4 slots and go from 16 to 32GB since memory is so cheap. Not overclocking anything just using XMP to get 3200 memory speed. Think I'll be ok or should I sell my...
Using 2 sticks in AMD build (dual channel). Would filling out the other 2 slots with Corsair “Dummy” sticks just for lighting effect the performance/memory controller in any way?
Working on new build. Was going i7 10700k but decided to do Ryzen 5 5600x instead because of the single core performance (photoshop) and less heat. Just a simple 1080p build:
Ryzen 5 5600x with Arctic Cooling Esports 34 Duo
MSI B550 Mortar WiFi
16 Gb DDR 4 3200 (or 3600)
2 SSD or 1 m.2 and 1...
Do I need the “k” unlocked version if I don’t plan on overclocking anything? It’s about $50 more.

Me too, I’m really looking at the MSI B550 Mortar WiFi (Silver) and Mortar (Green) for new 3300x build. Never used micro ATX before i want to do one I think vs B550 Tomahawk since I don’t need the extra slots.
Current PC (been a while since builds :))
Thinking of a $500 AMD budget build using existing case, psu, drives instead of cheap laptop. This build hasn’t had a ton of use and has plenty of cooling. Would mainly be used for photoshop, occasional rts.
This build from another thread looks good...
Sorry forgot my specs:

I have 2 sticks in dual channel:
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual ChannelKit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK.
Would I notice a huge difference if I picked up another set of these and run 4x2gb? The 2x4gb set is pretty expensive.
Never oc'd before. Really just want to take the stock to the "factory oc version":
860MHz / 1200MHz (4.8Gbps) to 1000MHz / 1200MHz (4.8Gbps)
Which program is best to use? Also how do i overclock - just bump it to 1000 or go in small increments?
You are right - I think Skyrim is the most demanding game i'm playing now. (Too many Steam sales of older titles/indie games :) ) I liked the matched set of 8gb as well.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Sapphire and HIS both look really nice.
Been out of the building loop for a while so I don't know what gpu is what :) .
I play at 1680x1050 and can run all games except Skyrim on highest - just like something as good as or a bit better in the $100-200 range
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black
Scythe MUGEN-2/Antec 120mm Tri-Cool...
(Maybe a stupid question but...)
Could it be harmful (mobo, usb port or damage the drive itself) to a system to run usb powered devices? I see there are drives with ac adapters.
Found this on sale and was wondering if it would be better if I used a Y adapter (Startech 1 ft 2 usb ports to mini) for power or if the single is sufficient.
My mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P
