Diablo IV - The Real Official Thread

'many shadows' *facepalm. I can't wait for lighting engines to finish transitioning to global raytraced or equivalent, it's so jarring to me when you have natural lighting and then some baked-in...

Well that is underwhelming.

9 months after the game is out and it's maybe not even worth turning on. I'm already maxing out my 4k 165hz monitor on a 7900 XTX on this one too. M
DLSS 3 will be good for peole on a 4070 playing at 4K I guess?

it looks better with RT enabled but you really need to be looking closely...in motion I'm not sure most people will really be able to tell

Diablo IV shipped with DLSS frame generation "DLSS 3." This update is just adding limited ray tracing effects (shadows and reflections).

The shadows look really good to me in the video compared to the original.

That's useful for the 4060 in my lappy. Everything else I have doesn't seem to need it. It's trickery I say, but it helps the less fortunate gpu's. God knows the 4060 line is very unfortunate.

This addition is cool and all, but RT adds nothing but bling to an otherwise boring, to me, game.

The RT definitely makes the game look better. But as I've (and well let's be real, tons of other people have) said, the issues in D4 are not remotely related to visuals.

If you're a casual Andy, then D4 is great. But if you're a hardcore Diablo fan, there is no end game worth playing, the end game loot doesn't feel like it's worth grinding for, leveling is still a chore (but better), there is just not anything interesting to do.

(EDIT - putting this here since DoJ already quoted me: it's also worth noting that the entire skill system is terrible and need to be reworked. They tried to be in the middle looking like PoE, but easier. However it only made single builds viable in comparison with D3, that Rkykker made tier lists for for years which contained 50+ builds every season. Blizzard should've reached for D2 for inspiration instead of PoE. Because right now there is just no joy when it comes to builds and considering the type of game this is, that is a major failing).

Though it's doubtful that people working on the engine/bugs aren't the same people doing dev work for content, it still feels bad to get this and not get a better game. Also what with expansions looming that will also potentially cost $100. Which is dumb when it should definitely not be more than $30. Blizzard showing how out of touch it is when CP2077's expansion Phantom Liberty is $30 and for sure required much more work than any Diablo expansion ever will (as well as way more people required, voice actors, mo-cap, in addition to the normal stuff like new map, tons of additional models, redesigned systems, etc).

This reflects my sentiment.

I'm.an ultra casual player, 20 to 30 minutes before bed mostly. Just started playing Diablo IV again when I got my LG 45 Ultragear and holy cow the game looks insane on a large OLED.

I have a level 43 Rogue that feels a lot of fun, warp speed fast attacker, pew, pew, pew style. Rabid shooter with shadow spells. I'm loving it.

But again I'm not even at end game yet, so what do I know

Also have several alts, my level 28 Druid werebear is crazy too.

The Last Epoch is so much better I even like The Druid better with the Last Epoch.
I have that on my Steam wish list, the only reason I don't pull the trigger is the comments about the servers not being reliable. I may get it anyways till POE2 arrives.

Maybe one day I'll have the urge to jump back into this lol. That Season 3 trailer doesn't do anything for me. Feels like a generic, "Oh, add something mechanical".

Wish they'd stick with the darker lore of demonology, but that is probably just personal preference.

Can you use your other season characters in other newer seasons? I could care less about getting on the ladder at all. I just do not want to lose progress I have made in the past just because new season comes out.

Can I still take advantage of what the new season offers with an old season character?

No. Your old season character is moved to eternal realm and you can't use it to progress in new season. If I recall correctly you are not even allowed to level up in new battle pass with eternal character.

Anyway, surprised they didn't mention much about S3 endgame. There are Vaults which are basically new dungeons. The gauntlet is coming who knows when. No new world boss or farm bosses like Duriel have been mentioned.
S3 feels a bit underwhelming after S2. S4 is supposed to bring itemization overhaul which I'm looking forward to.
Guess S3 will be barbarian until lvl 100/season complete and then I'll take a break until S4.

No. The point of seasons is to start from scratch. It's the same in every other ARPG that has seasonal mechanics.

Wait. This upcoming season, will that erase my current level 45 character or something?

Drops to standard. Just means you can't use season toons on a fresh clean season. You can still play it on standard and miss out on the new seasons mechanics until it rolls into core. At least that's how it used to work IDK what they are doing nowadays since I uninstalled already.

For seasonal content, yes, you will have to make a new character. Your old char is saved on the eternal realm though.

Did they find a way to make this game not shitty yet or do I keep waiting for a fun season

So wait. I completed D4? Level 46 Rogue, fought Lilith in act VI I believe, get back to town, roll credits, movies over.

Uh...I thought max level was level 100? So now what?

If you’re just playing the game for the story, then you’re done. If you’re a competitive player, then the story is not even remotely a part of your interest in playing the game.

Hitting level cap and grinding for gear is primarily for people playing competitive.

Does D4 ever go on sale? I can’t stomache spending $70 on it when I just bought a laptop with a Ryzen 5 6600H 16GB Ram RTX 3050 with a 1080p 120hz screen for an incredible price of $200. With these specs will Diablo4 run ok?

Yes it was $42 multiple times over the holidays.
It will probably be a month or two before their next sale though.
