Battlefield 2042

Player count has been fantastic over these last few months, and there's good reason for that. BF is back and as good as ever.

Is this game totally dead or something now?

I just re-installed it last night, and tried getting into games, and always EMPTY. No one would join, it would just stay at 1-64 players and waiting... I tried every game mode and every option, and I just sit here for minutes, for even one other player to join, and nothing. Was like that yesterday and today.

I bought it a week ago thinking it wasn't as dead as it is, only certain game modes seem to have players.

Update;

I enabled cross-play and there are players finally LOL So PC only this game is dead, but with console players + PC players there's actual real humans playing :) :)

Pretty sure matchmaking just sucks as this was a problem even at launch when there was way more PC players....at least that was my experience. We just keep it on and for the most part, our servers are usually majority PC players.

For the love of God, how is there no server browser like literally every previous Battlefield game.

The problem is cross play is the default. And some people will use cross play. That means any PC gamer that uses cross play will not match with PC only gamers. So the PC player base is essentially halved. And it snowballs from there. If only 2,000 people are playing, they might not find the map/mode they want to play. So they won't play as frequently. This decreases their time in game. Which means the player base further dwindles, and with less players, less people play.

So not only is cross play default, but the people who couldn't find the map/mode that wanted may have found it on cross play. So they switch to that; some will never use cross play and just stop playing.

I understand cross play can work for a number of games. I would have liked cross play for Ace Combat 7, it is more or less dead on PC but still has players for consoles apparently. But that is a series focused primarily on its campaign, and everyone plays with a controller. Battlefield used to have large, expansive PC only servers and BF4 was active with a number of sever options/modes for years. It could be done, if the game is popular enough and has good server tools/policy. The current BF games don't have that, and default to cross play. I don't like cross play for FPS games but going forward it will be our only option really.

I also installed BF4 this week, and load up the in-game server browser and there's tons of maps with active real life humans playing. Like quite a bit actually, and that game out, like a decade ago.

I also installed BF1 just to check it out again, same thing, lots more real players on Battlefield 1 than 2042.

I am starting to feel like an idiot for buying it, matchmaking is trash, 7 real people on my team, 20 on the enemy team. That is on top of most games being mostly bots that zero shit so bad you domt have a chance.

Edit: The best bet for at least mostly full teams is custom games, they are usually conquest though.

Did they dump battlelog at some point? It used to be web-based.
Literally the best server browser they ever created by miles, and people hated it.

You didn't even see a load screen, intro movie, nada. You click server, it tells you when it's ingame as it connects and loads in the background.

Want to change server? Just alt tab and click a new one.

It also kept your PC cool and quite while you were waiting to join a server a friend was in. I agree it could have been integrated in game, but keep the layout and style. I don't think we'll ever see such a server browser ever again. It was quite amazing and most games these days don't have server browsers.

Even Counter Strike pretty much threw it in the trash with GO. Yet for some reason people give Valve a pass for everything.

Don't forget BetterBattlelog for BF4 if it still works

Better Battlelog was also great. I never understood why so many people complained about it.

I understand why people like matchmaking, but it always has too many negatives for me. Most don't actually give you any options. There is usually no way to queue for multiple modes with only select maps. I also never understood why people were willing to sit there while waiting to see if they got into a match. If I want to play, I want to play and not sit around waiting for it to find me a match.

Battlelog was buggy AF and produced many failed to join errors or game crashes during handoff.

It is very ironic that after they fixed all the problems, they just went and replaced it.

In the end it was pretty ok.

Of active Battlefield games, which is the one with the most current player base?

In this order?

BF5 ?
BF4 ?
BF1 ?
BF2042?

Never had a single one of those issues that I remember. Then again I usually just joined my favorite community servers from it and rarely jumped around a lot.

Mostly launch issues. Might have even been carry overs from bf3, I can't remember. Early Battle log had issues.

Oh I always sit out BF launches due to how buggy everything is and they usually go on sale for half price by Black Friday only a month or two later.

What a borked system games are. You pay half price for a functional game, while everyone who pays full price gets a broken shell of a game. I won't buy 2042 because of how badly they botched bfv.
Bfv is a great game, but they did not deliver what was promised.

Why still not working MSI AFTERBURNER and Riva tuner in this game? I wanna check cpu temps and thanks

Hi guys.
So the last Battlefield game i played frequently was number 4 (still play it today time to time)
Tried Battlefield 1 for a short time, but since the game had too many bugs i had a refund. Been playing Battlefield since the first release and enjoyed every single hour i spent with it, but something went wrong after the 4th.

Today i'm sitting here and want to try out 2042. The reviews was not that great at release, but it seems like they solved alot of the most problems. But still, a 2 year old game that is sold at 89,99€ (Elit edition) Is it worth the money? I'm just looking to have some fun, nothing else.

Thanks

It is more or less a "hero shooter" with some BF style gameplay. Last I played it made it was aggravating to play. Every time I get an email from DICE/EA (I am not sure when it subscribed me?) it talks about all the new heroes you can spend money on. I am not sure if they toned down the silly powers the heroes get. At times you could kind of ignore it, but the lack of a server browser, resetting settings, and lack of vehicles made it a bore. The last time I played it I could actually get a vehicle. Got something like 20-23 kills in a row with an AH-6. That was fun, but vehicles are so far and few between, and the long wait times/lack of server browser was such a pain. The official DICE rules/spawn rates for vehicles sucked, as did some of the balance.

If you can get it for $12 or whatever it was it might be worth a try.

I launched it for the first time since shortly after release today and had no problems finding a 32v32 conquest game. Personally I think cross play is the best thing to happen to multiplayer gaming since broadband.

Enable crossplay.

I havent been able to get it start since summer. Updated game one day and it tries to start then just goes away. Tried reinstalling it twice and does the same thing. I gave up on it.

The worst part of modern matchmaking is dissolving the lobby after every individual match. This has two issues: having to wait in a queue to find another lobby and not being able to make any friends. It was already hard enough to make friends anymore when matchmaking supplanted servers, but now it's impossible.

Most exciting part of a new BF release is the Open Beta weekend. It pains me to say that as I used to be a HUGE BF fan and preferred it over COD by a long shot back in the day. That said, I still, and will continue to buy new BF releases.
