Little PC build for design work: 12700 or 5900X?

    Appreciate all your help. 😬

Little PC build for design work: 12700 or 5900X?

Yeah, as the current ITX landscape comes clearer, it is seeming like I'll get better overall value from a Ryzen setup. I bet in six months or so it will be a different story, but that's just the way it goes, I guess.

Little PC build for design work: 12700 or 5900X?

Haha, we just cross-messaged. But thank you for this info! Hmm, DDR5 just seems prohibitively expensive right now for the benefit I would get. What about the other Alder Lake boards? H670, etc.? I think I'm pretty set on the IQUNIX case [I might consider the Lian-Li A4 H20 if it comes in stock]...

Little PC build for design work: 12700 or 5900X?

Oh, awesome. I'm glad you said that because I'd much rather use the EK Basic if I could. I'd read some older posts where people couldn't get the LGA 1700 kits to fit properly, but maybe they've sorted the issue by now. Thanks again. Edit: Oh, the case I'm looking at is the IQUNIX ZX-1, a pretty...

Little PC build for design work: 12700 or 5900X?

Haha, well, I'm already on Win11, so I hope the reverse is true, too. Appreciate the help! Edit: Oh, since you mentioned the energy efficiency, do you think a 240 AIO is enough to manage the 12700 in an ITX enclosure? I haven't found that much about the temperature differences.

Little PC build for design work: 12700 or 5900X?

Awesome, thank you. When I discovered that the 5900X could be had for such a reasonable price, I thought I'd surely go Ryzen, but these Alder Lake chips have legitimately surprised me! I have read on another forum that Alder Lake also plays better on Win11—or, to be accurate, that Ryzen plays...

Little PC build for design work: 12700 or 5900X?

Hello, I just got a new job as a contractor doing multimedia design work, and as the workload seems a bit more intense, I think it feels like time to upgrade my system—I'm currently running a 4790K + GTX 970, which has served me well. 😊 It may not matter much, but for what it's worth, I'm most...

Help with a new budget build

No worries, glad to do it. Danny's the man. Good luck with your build!

Help with a new budget build

Oh, well, I don't know about major! :p I do think the build I provided is more on the "GPU-oriented" side of things, whereas Danny's build is better balanced. But in terms of budget gaming builds, I normally try to get high-quality parts for the core hardware, while still saving money for where...

Help with a new budget build

Danny's builds are always top-notch, so I would consider his very closely, but here is another option, if you don't mind going a step down in terms of CPU performance. I personally think the P2X4 955 is still a great value. You could trade out the graphics for something with a bit more bite, and...

    Proposed Gaming Rig: Thoughts/Suggestions

I do love the Mini P180, also, but the swinging door has become something of a mild nuisance. For the price I paid, though [$69.99], it was far and away the most sleek, feature-rich Micro ATX case I could find, and it has served me quite well. That said, I have built computers for...

    Proposed Gaming Rig: Thoughts/Suggestions

I have the Mini P180, and I'm not sure about the relative dimensions, but I can say for sure that if you are using fewer than three hard drives, there's a superfluous hard drive cage, right where most graphics cards would run into trouble. I have removed that cage, and I'd say there has to be...

My Final x79 Build, lots of advice CRUCIAL

Heh, I'm sure they are beneficial, but my point was that it seems like your budget is quite expansive, and yet you have a cost issue with a $200 case. Certainly, you can do whatever you want, but there seems to be a disconnect somewhere. Cheers!

My Final x79 Build, lots of advice CRUCIAL

Sorry about that. I guess I find it a little confusing that you would cringe at a $150 computer case (FT03), and yet consider a 512GB solid state drive for storage. If budget is a concern, why not go with Danny's Hitachi drive, and pocket the change? There's your $250 case right there, plus a...
