I'd suggest the Pioneers or a pair of Audioengine A2.

The sensor has plagued both of these mice for some time now. The G500s has horrible lag. Logitech has made a statement that they are working on a fix.

Can someone measure the distance from the back of the mouse (where the palm rests) to the end of the forward button for each mouse? I have long fingers and a lot of mice have the forward and back buttons too far back for me. I use a combination palm/claw grip. Thanks

The Audioengine A2s are a great small form factor speakers. They have received extremely positive reviews. Look it up. You have to understand the limitations of a 2.75" driver. You're not going to get chest thumping bass at reference levels. I would not hesitate to buy the Audioengines...

OP isn't going to use a sub, so it works out well. Audioengine has a 30 day in home trial. Get them, and if they aren't what you're looking for, return them. It's that easy.

The biggest improvement you'll get is by upgrading your speakers.

Your receiver is nice. Get new speakers. No need to spend that money on a sound card. How much do you want to spend on speakers?

You'll be happy with what you hear. Set the crossover to around 80Hz on the sub.

Stick with active speakers. Moms tend to not like all the buttons that come with a receiver. Just plug in a play is the easiest route.

I went from a 20wmgx2 to a 27" iMac. The IPS display is very good on the iMac. I don't miss the NEC, but of course I still have it.
