I'd like to stay in the $500 range...a bit of overage isn't a concern though. For storage I was looking at 2x 500GB in RAID1...performance isn't a huge concern here, just the integrity of the data. Of course the potential for expanding is there too.

Nothing too special here. The Fortigate FW policies are locked down very tightly allowing only explicit traffic in and out. And coming soon will be a Symantec Sygate Management Server which will provide host based IPS/IDS and firewall to all my hosts.
Having a tough time deciding between the two cards..both are in the same price range with relatively similar performance apparently. Both have their downsides with the 4850 running hot and the 9800 requiring a bit more in terms of power.
