New Samsung 4k for everyone.

How worse does text look on the 48" vs 40"?

The 48" has 91.79 PPI which is same as 24" 1080p.
The 40" has 110.15 PPI which is similar to 27" 1440p.

Would the text on the larger screen appear "much more" pixelated?
Would the text "look bigger" on the larger screen?

It was several years ago since I used a 24" inch 1080p display so don't remember what it looked like.

I am using an IPS 24 inch 1080p monitor at work ( two in portrait mode) and the text is perfect to me. The Benq bl3200pt (2560x1440) has the same size text as a 1080p 24 inch monitor and the 48 inch 4k Samsung would have the same size text as those as far as I understand it.

In other words the text should be perfectly fine. I will know next week when the monitor comes in.

Anyone order this tv from pcrichard?

Eh. Since my Titans can only do 4:2:0 @ 4k/60Hz anyways I guess it won't matter much to me if I use game mode until the 390x comes out.:D

My TV should arrive any time now.

Weird because I can't enable UHD mode on HDMI 2, 3, or 4 or use PC mode. It certainly isn't working otherwise. I can only enable UHD on HDMI 1. In terms of input lag Game mode and PC mode do feel the same.

Yes, only HDMI 1 can do UHD Color and PC Mode. I'm sure the other HDMI Ports has higher input lag.

As I said, mine won't do PC mode on HDMI 1. My 65" doesn't give me that option either. All the ports seem to be the same in terms of input lag. They have noticably reduced lag in PC / Game modes.

You need to remove the STB on HDMI 1 input, once remove it ( the tv thinks a STB is hooked up to HDMI 1 ) you will then be able to label input 1 to PC. There is detail instructions on the Net on how to remove STB from HDMI input. I have done it on both of my Samsung tvs.

Edit, here is how to remove the STB for input 1 HDMI, after you do this then you can go and label it PC:

Here is how you disable STB on a Samsung Smart TV.

Hit the Menu button on your TV remote. I used the original remote that came with my TV.
Then use the down arrow to get to System.
Use the right arrow to select System.
Use the down arrow and select Device Manager.
Select the Universal Remote Setup option.
There should be two options available, one of those options is probably your cable provider. On my TV, it said Comcast. For you, it could say Charter Communications, DirecTV, Dish Network, AT&T U-verse depending on the service you selected when you originally set up your TV.
Select the Cable Provider Set Top Box (STB) option.
Select Delete (This will remove this STB from your TV)
Now your TV is STB free.

This thread has me all kinds of interested...But how is it working on things like Photoshop or Illustrator on a curved display?

Ok... stupid question but I have the 48ju7500 on the way and I am debating whether just gaming on the Xbox One on the Display or building a gaming pc and gaming at native 4k...

So those playing 4k games on these displays, is it worth the huge $$ to go 4k gaming on these? Is it a large enough difference to make it worth it?

Just to be clear, I can certainly see a big difference between 720p and 1080p and I notice a large difference going from 1080p to 1440p displays.

Thanks for anyone's insight on this. I will be using game mode so the 4:4:4 for gaming I won't have.

I don't have both the 48" and 40" to compare, but I can say that text at 100% size looks great on the 48". Very similar to 2560x1600 on the Dell u3011 30".

Overall the 48" 6700 is just so awesome!

Okay - I posted on my findings last night with 3 different 50ft HDMI cables (that did not work).

Can anyone recommend names of high end HDMI cables to look into? I really would like to get a 50ft cable working (40ft is the shortest) and I'm willing to pay more $$ to get a cable that works.

Thanks!

Just went up, game mode is 21ms with Leo Bodnar!! Incredible!!

PC mode with 4:4:4 is 36ms ( still really good!!) with Leo Bodnar!!

Looks like this tv is a winner and we chose wisely!!

"More impressive was the UE48JU7500′s screen uniformity, helped perhaps by its likely direct LED underpinning. We ran various shades of full-field grey patterns on the 4K TV, and detected no visible banding; nor did we witness any significant dirty screen effect (DSE) in panning shots during live football broadcast."

"Watch out Sony, Samsung is going after the “best gaming TV” crown you’ve comfortably held since 2013. The 48in JU7500 delivered the lowest input lag we’ve recorded yet from a 4K Ultra HD TV, coming in at 21ms according to our Leo Bodnar tester device.
Input lag
Owners who care about full 4:4:4 chroma reproduction when playing PC games will also be pleased to know that input lag in [PC] mode measured an acceptable 36ms. "

PC and Game Mode is a dead heat in input lag. Hard to tell the difference.
4:4:4 is amazing. This has very minor trade-offs but for the price this TV is a Colorless Diamond.

I can confirm that the text is similar between the Dell 3007WFP-HC and the 48" JU6700.

That is the UE48JU7500T, not the JU6700 that most of us are using. Granted there are similarities but we aren't talking about the same TV.

What the hell is a Leo Bodnar?

It tests input lag, check out displaylag.com for detailed explanation. it is how all the websites are consistantly measuring input lag. I have one myself it is great at what it does.

PC and Game Mode is a dead heat in input lag. Hard to tell the difference.

We are tlaking about 15ms difference, so almost an entire frame ( 16.7ms). I have had tvs at 36ms tests by my Leo Bodnar tester and compared to pc monitors around high teens and I can definately feel a difference. It all comes down to what your used to though.

They reviewed the Euro version. Same monitor, different model numbers.

What are you playing to be so sensitive to input lag 15ms+? UT? Q3A? CS:GO?
If so, this is not the monitor for those games.

Hmmm. Wonder if I should've gotten the 40JU7500 instead of the 40JU6700...

Doesn't matter, if I play racing games, FPS or fighters, I can feel the difference a frame gives. Some people honestly are not sensitive to it.

I have a Samsung monitor that I tested with the Leo Bodnar that was at 9.8ms(middle bar) for input lag, lowest I have tried and the difference between that and a 43ms input lag Samsung 65h8000 I have was large difference for gaming.

If you can play games in PC mode at 36ms and game mode at 21ms and you don't feel any difference then awsome!!

I will this week. I have a 48" on the way as of last night. The 40" is so good, I decided to try its big brother in an alternate arrangement where I can sit a little further back. It'll only cost me $10 to try it for 60 days...

This is precisely why I should lock up my wallet when I decide to have a few drinks. :D

Hmmm. Wonder if I should've gotten the 40JU7500 instead of the 40JU6700...

I wouldn't sweat it, man. You will love it. For all we know, if they reviewed the 6700 the praise would be just as high. I really think the main contributors to the price difference are 3D capability, 240 Hz smooth motion crap for TV/movies, etc.

These are fantastic displays regardless of the price, and even more fantastic values when you factor in the value.

Or heck, order a 40JU7500 from Crutchfield and be the first [H] guinea pig to directly compare the two...hehe.

The ju7000 series you can turn on UHD color on any hdmi input. Maybe that will allow 4:4:4 color in game mode on a different hdmi port. I dont think PC mode has anything to do with 4:4:4 color. Does anyone own a ju7000 series that can test this?

This is actually a big deal, where did you hear that?

I'm working in Photoshop and Dreamweaver as we speak. (DPI 125%)

It's what dreams are made of.

That's great news! So you don't have any issue lining things up or anything? I wish I could see what this looked like in person but none of the stores around here have them in stock.

This thread has me all kinds of interested...But how is it working on things like Photoshop or Illustrator on a curved display?

Actually it works well. You don't even really notice the curve after awhile. I think the benefit there is it make the corners easier to see. I did a bunch of Photoshop work this last weekend and aside from the color issue I was satisfied with the display. Now that I can run 4:4:4 I imagine that won't be a problem.

Agreed. I can tell a difference between PC and Game modes for sure. The difference is small but it is there. I can also tell a difference going from the ROG Swifts to the JU6700. The JU6700 is definitely slower but the more I get used to it the less I notice it. I think it's fast enough to satisfy most people in game mode regardless of the games you play. I could be wrong. There will be a subset of people who won't find it acceptable of course, but to me the trade off is worth it. The size, colors, etc. make up for the latency to some extent. Of course if we were talking about 60ms or higher I wouldn't be saying that.

Did anyone buy the flat version? I'm curious if things like glowing corners and color shifting is far less obvious on the curved.

Got mine. I feel it's just too big for my desk. I sit way too close. I'd return it but I don't think I'd be able to get it down 3 flights of stairs and into the car by myself. Maybe a vesa mount to bring it down a few inches, but I don't think it would fit on my desk. Also, my stand isn't quite right- it's not exactly straight - it tilts down a bit.

Anyways, it looks good enough even on my Titans @ 4:2:0. I have to figure out optimal settings for it.

That's too bad. I don't think 36ms is acceptable. I'm not even a hardcore FPS gamer but the last time I used a computer monitor which that much lag was back in the mid 2000's. Tftcentral would rate 36ms as: Class 3) A lag of more than 32ms / more than 2 frames - Some noticeable lag in daily usage, not suitable for high end gaming.

I'm not sure if the more glossy screen or slight curve is worth a 75%+ more ms lag than what I have now...hmmm....The Philips 4K 40" I'm using now is tested with about 20.3ms lag.

Please tell me that you measured beforehand (or went to see one in store) to get some idea of how large it would be...this is exactly why I cautioned people earlier in the thread about rushing to buy the 48". It really is massive.

Is it too wobbly to use without the stand? The curve should prevent it from straight falling over.

I'll use it for a while and then I'll talk to Crutchfield and see if they cover home pickup. That's why I ordered there- because of their liberal return policy. I think I'll be happier with the 40".

What are some good settings for the display? Also, how do you turn off the auto-dimming?

If you have a small desk area ... do not by the Samsung.

You need 3 1/2 to 4' anything smaller go for the 40"

And you really want us to believe you cannot carry and handle 27lbs?

I'm 6'2" 260 and I can carry mine no problem. What I'm hearing is you can't handle

It's 40lbs in the box and it's quite large. Yes I have a hard time with it. Sorry if I had back and leg surgery and am not as able as you.

Can you post pics?? What kind of games and framerates are you getting? Titan x I assume?

If you got the curved one, try taking it off the stand and having it sit on the table, lowers it about 3 inches, this is what I will be doing.

Eesh, even if it would stand up on its own, I would not want to do that.

Although it looks pretty cool...

Right, I understand that you're not stuck with it which is great but sounds like it could still be a hassle to return due to the size.

Someone earlier in the thread said that it shrinks the more you use it...maybe that will happen, but you still need to have the physical space to accommodate it.

Menu > Picture > Advanced Settings > Dynamic Contrast OFF
Menu > System > Eco Solution > Energy Saving OFF and Eco Sensor OFF

I disabled all of that crap. I can't *stand* dynamic contrast/brightness on a PC monitor. Drives me crazy.

Lol, I think it was more due to the fact that the box is large and awkward to carry, especially up and down stairs. Not necessarily due to the weight.

Really the lag and the sizes just aren't worth commenting on further in terms of their being a deal-breaker or not (now that we know the lag ms numbers on the Samsung of course).

Just too personal, too individual. I was a top-25 CS player, in the world, back in 2001, on a then way-too-soon LCD that had 100ms+ of lag. It was awful, but not the game-changer, for me personally, that others are making it out to be.

Needless to say, it's all relative, and to each their own.

And the same goes for size. If you're not smart enough to do a cut out and simulate the monitor sizes on your specific desktop before you order...well... not much we can do for you when you find out it's "too big" or "too small" once it's in the house. We've said to do a "try out" several times in the thread.

Wirt even mentioned lifting your existing monitor to the Samsung 48" height of 27" and use it for a while to see if it's ok for you. Brilliant, and obvious, and something I personally did on day one of the thread weeks ago.

Use your head people, this isn't rocket science.

I have 3 stock Titans, no Titan X, none of that.

I noticed for picture mode I still have Dynamic/Standard/Natural/Movie even though I am in PC mode, renamed HDMI 1 to PC and changed to UHD mode. Where is game mode?

I might remove the stand and place it on my desk, but I'm a bit hesitant to do that.

Well said.

Also, 100ms+ lag? Horry shat! What monitor was that?

My first LCD was an 18" Viewsonic I think; used it until my psycho (sorry..."emotional") ex-GF attempted to throw it across the room and broke the screen. Upgraded to the Dell 2001FP which was, at the time, amazing. I had no real care or concept of lag back then, so I was happy as a clam. But I'm sure by today's standards it was awful. I never played competitively.

So I averaged around 44fps in the Mordor benchmark with all the settings on high which isn't too bad considering ([email protected]). I'm sure you'll do much better with more recent cards like the 970/980.

Your setup is like art exhibition :D but I can not avoid being shocked about its height .
BTW, math shows that 27" monitors in portrait would be in perfect height match with the 40" and moreover the 27"@1440p has the same pixel density as the 40"@4K.

Who's math are you using???

I have been doing the math too, a 27" 1440p and a 40" 4K have very similar PPI, but the height of a 27" portrait is 2560 pixels (60cm), a 40" is 2160 pixels high (50cm). Hardly a perfect height match unless you want your display layout to look like a TIE fighter.

I got my HDMI 1 input to let me put it in PC mode. Game mode definitely doesn't support 4:4:4. There is quality degradation in game mode but you definitely get less input lag. For FPS games I can live with the trade off. For everything else, PC mode is the way to go.
