why isnt my software like nero and CDburnXP not reading my cd recorder?

i can burn mp3's no problem with a mp3 burner, but when i open Nero and CdburnXP they cant find my cd recorder..............i just want to burn a cd for crying out loud! any thoughts?
 
It's never a good idea to have several burning apps loaded at once. If they happen to try and load their own ASPY layer, you can get conflicts. Nero is full featured, so uninstall the others and just try Nero.
 
i had just nero installed at first, but it didnt work so i installed the xp pro and same problem....
 
Your version of Nero probably doesn't recognise your burner (too old...) or it is an OEM version, keyed to one specific drive.

Some versions of Nero that come bundled with a partiicular CDwriter are keyed to work only with that specific writer = OEM.
