I have recently tried to share some of my folders over the network at my apartment complex but whenever a remote user tries to open any of the shared folders they get an access denied message. I've been messing around with different things and I still can't get it to work. I also wanted to have the folders password protected. I have simple file sharing off and firewall disabled but nothing. I still get the same error message.

Do the remote accounts have duplicate locol accounts?

Have you set propper permission on the directories?

Remeber that Deny superseeds allow, and Everyone means EVERYONE

Again, whatever account you have on the local machine, make sure an EXACT copy of that account (name and password) is on the server.

Then check the folder rights. Make sure EVERYONE has full rights.

Then check the NTFS rights. Delete the EVERYONE group and add the local account that you created in step one with appropriate rights.

That should do it.

also if you have the xp built in firewall enabled sometimes no-one can connect.. ive had that problem before..
