The corsair with 2-2-2-5 is $100 more than the regular xms.

Is this necissary? Im planning on having an Athlon64 3000+ and OC'ing

help me out kids.

I have an A64 3000+ at 2.4ghz on a VNF3-250 and the low latency memory works best with A64. However what speed memory are you looking at? So far their is no ram I know of rated over PC3700 that works as well with A64 Socket 754 as the lower speed memory with tight timings. I have corsair XMS3500 Cas 2 and it works 2-2-2-5 up to about 220mhz. I have heard OCZ Enhanced Bandwidth PC3700 can run up to 260mhz on A64 that appears to be the best so far.

This is the OCZ memory how does that compare to your price on corsair? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-984&depa=0

Wow! that price is great! $200 less... but it has higher latency

I was going to get the Abit KV8Pro for a mobo

About the ram, 3200, I dont think the mobo could handle anything higher... or could it?

edit* Ahhh I see, overclocking the mobo... I dont know much about overclocking motherboards, what would you suggest I do?

Well first I was remiss I forgot to say that the enhanced bandwidth is tweaked to give better performance at all speeds even though is does not have low latency. Most modern memory can do 2-2-2-5 at 200mhz DDR or pc3200. However if you are buying a a64 motherboard that is nforce3-250 and PCI locked you can change the FSB and run the memory and processor at higher speed. So if you are new to the game and not intrested in overclocking try this memory http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-480&depa=0 It is cheaper and you get 1gb. If you plan on overclocking then the OCZ 3700EB is a must for now that appears to be the best memory for OCing a A64

wow thanks, you guys help alot.

(is the ocz going to be straight for the Abit KV8Pro?)

also, how much? 512mb would be easier on the pockets... but i suppose a gig is pretty much necessary these days huh.

I would be willing to help you set the bios settings and configure your system. 512 is good enough since you really only want to use 1 stick with the a64 when overclocking. Here is a cheap motherboard that would work with the EB. You may hear others saying this board is buggy but for the price you can try it and exchange it for the more expensive ones if it does not work.

You would be better off buying the cheap corsair or crucial value ram pc3200 than trying OCZ that is not labeled enhanced bandwidth they have not found OCZ memory other than the EB to run well with an A64. You could get lucky but corsair and crucial value ram are equally likely to run well unless you consider the EB as a option

Here are what I see as your 4 best options for 1gig from newegg ranked cheapest first.

1This is the cheaper memory but you still have a good chance of being able to overclock it well PC3200 Value 179$

2 This stuff is a little more but it would run great PC3200 Low Latency 236$

This is the EB and the most expensive 3 PC3500 299$ 4 PC3700 329$

But with that particular corsair i could not overclock. Is overclocking the motherboard (RAM) necessicary when overclocking the CPU? I care more about the CPU. What would you do? go with the pc 3200? or 3700? Thanks for the help.

Anyone think the el cheepo Corsair will do 220MHz at T1 3-3-3-11? Maybe feed it 2.8v?

Oh and get the Epox instead of the Chaintech
