oh my gosh! i've had the same email now for about 2 years and it's gotten to a point of being completely ridiculous.. about 100-150 spam emails a day, to the point of where it becomes pointless to even open outlook and sift through the garbage. does anyone have any solutions as far as third party outlook express solutions, or ANYTHING that can help this heavy load? any lists you can submit yourself to to help this serious problem? thanks a ton, i know there are a ton of people in a similar position as me... :/

First, dump OE. Then, take a look at Thunderbird, or if you want extreme flexibility and ease of use, try Poco Mail. This client has easy to use filters that will help you aviod spam. You can configure it to delete mail on the server before you even see it, if you like. It has endless possibilities. I use Poco on my main rig which routes everything to the proper machines on my home network. It will cost you $25-30, but it is worth every penny. Support is first class, too.
The other machines use Thunderbird. It is a very nice, and free, e-mail client. One, or both, of these will fill any need that you have. Bye, bye spam. :)

By the way, neither will hog space and resources like that "Sin Against God" program, Outlook Express. "Express" ...now there's an oxymoron, if I ever heard one. :D

The best way to not get spam is to not enter your e-mail address into any web sites. I've had a Road Runner account for 2 years now and I've probably had around 10 pieces of spam total. I only give my RR e-mail address to family and friends. Whenever I have to enter an e-mail address into a web site I always give my hotmail address, which I never use.

On the subject of eliminating spam now that you're already getting it, you could always set up mail rules, so it looks for words like "sex, viagra" etc, in the body of the e-mail, and automatically deletes it.

With the random character subject lines and random word subject lines filtering key words like sex, viagra, slut, etc is never going to be totally effective. What I've done is create a white list of all the e-mail addresses of friends, family, and anyone else I want to receive mail from. Everything not on the list goes straight into a junk folder. All of a sudden my spam problem isn't all that bad anymore...

I still would like to see spammers hung by the tallywhacker until they swear off not only spamming, but computers entirely...

that doesn't always work, one of my friends uses outlook and he got a virus that stole his address book and was sent back to a spam company so now my 100% spam free address of 7 years gets around 30-40 messages a day.

I finally had to resort to abandoning my e-mail address because even with custom spamassassin filters i still get spam.

Same here. I closed the account, and banned the family members in question.

i've gone a little further by auto responding to all messages with:

Unsolicited email (spam) is NOT tolerated from your address, this is you first
warning to remove any and all addresses at this domain from your lists. ANY
additional messages will be logged, traced and forwarded to Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection. Further Violations may result
in legal action wtih fines of up to $500USD per message.

i know that 99% of all the return adresses are fake but hey i'm board and have my own email server.:p

What I should have stressed is that what I said works for me. This tactic may not work for everyone. Of course, I have been very careful with any attachments in my e-mails, too. I've never had a virus infect me through e-mail.
