Hi,
I recentaly started up a Film company in East Stroudsburg, and an currently running only a 1.2 gig Amd with 512 megs of ram and a 128 nforce video card.

I want to build a faster system and was thinking Intel, but Amd I am told that Amd is the better of the two for graphic based computing. One capable of handling masive video editing in Adobe programs as well as rendering, and capturing with out over heating and taking 4 years to render a 2 min project.

I also do not have a lot of money, actually I only have approx 800 to spare at the moment. I was hoping that someone would be able to help me out with some really good sites for good quality cheep parts.

Thanks

if I remember correctly adobe has the enhancement code for intel chips in their programs. This means their product works a little faster clock per clock than an amd. But, considering your price limits and what you have now, amd might be better bang for buck. Now what will that 800 bucks have to cover? only motherboard/cpu/vid card or much more (say harddrives etc.)
Now, as for sites, I recommend directron.com, newegg.com, iocombo.com, and erm, zipzoomfly.com - formally googlegear.
These sites are tried & true.
Again need to know what you need to buy to build this 800 buck monster. Also, would video in/video out be a requirement?

If this computer is going to be used as the main rendering machine for a few years to come, you should think about investing in SMP systems like dual xeons.

The 800 < give or take, i just got another paycheck from my side job> needs to cover motherboard, cpu, ram, and video card.

I have a case i can use
I have a spare monitor i can hook up for the time being
I have a Dvd writer drive that ill swap
and I have a 80 gig Hd, but would prefer to start a new system off with a completely clean drive. <superstition>

Also this machine will be the main machine for several months untill I go top of the line, but I need to make money in the mean time, and I currently can only do one or two events < videography weddings, birthdays etc> in a week and get them done because this machine cannot handle what I need it to do. Thats why I need a faster and preferably more stable system.

Ill have to look into the xeons and see what they are about, i have not heard of them yet. But they are probably way out of my current price limit. Ill have to aim for one of them in late august.

ok, so 800 for the cpu, board, memory, video card - hmm tough
what programs you gonna run? Do you need vivo (vid in vid out?)
Hmm, you might want to look at your power supply, as the newer cpus are more power hungry than what you presently have...
ok, lets look at cheap - as 800 aint too big a budget - that prolly means amd...
for the cpu - 2500+ barton - newegg.com price $90 boxed free ship ($5 more than oem - get decent cooling/better warranty)
for board look at the low end nforce 2 ultra 400 - as they are stable and overclock well (even tho the multiplier is locked on the 2500+ you should be able to overclock it to 3200+ speeds)
So, with that in mind -
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-152-024&catalog=22&depa=1
chaintech's low end nf2 ultra 400 board. for a mere $59 free ship.
memory - 2x 256mb
kingston value ram
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-141-425&catalog=147&depa=1
$43x2 free ship OR
Corsair Value select
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-025&catalog=147&depa=1
also $43x2 free ship but better cas latency -
take two sticks for the dual memory bus to work on the nforce2 u 400
vid card - hmm I think the 9600 Pro All In Wonder - as it has vid in and out might be good for video editing (something I havent done)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-316&catalog=48&depa=1
$213 free ship
Now that leaves you with $352 to play with (getting faster drives etc...) And again look at your PSU - if it is like under 400 watts - you might want to upgrade - make sure it has 20+ amps on the +3.3v, +5v, AND +12v.
Now you might be able to go Athlon 64 -
3000+cpu
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-424&catalog=343&depa=1
$227 free ship
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-203&catalog=22&depa=1
gigabyte motherboard $95.99 free ship
Memory 512 mb stick
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-026&catalog=147&depa=1
$77 free ship
Plus the same video card - 9600 Pro AIW $213
Would be a mere $612.99 might be a good way of doing this
I'll post later with some Intel Ideas - I really need to know if your software is pro- smp and intel instructions

The software that I am using is
1. Aodbie premeir
2. Adobie after effects
3. Psp 7
4. Adobie Photoshop
6. Pinnical Studio 8
7. Bryce
8. 3d Max

Pinnical comes with an adapter to pull video in and send it out, and as long as the board has a fire wire port It should be good.

ok,
Intel may be a touch more expensive to do - and since I haven't done an Intel system in forever, I will defer to an Intel fan.
But, my general suggestions - get a 865 chipset board (around $120) (asus, or abit) and get a hyperthreading cpu such as this:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...116-157&catalog=343&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1
2.4 ghz P4 - which can overclock well - $165 freeship (I would not go any slower than this cpu)
Now I'd keep the same 512mb and run with that as an option - If you'd like to save $$$ on the vid card - go no less than a 9600 ati standard or a 5700 nvidia. ($108-150 range) I'd also look very hard at Matrox as they are excellent for this type of work... no less than a g450... Now, I made some assumptions - I assumed a 512mb limit on your Operating System, adding more memory (say upping it to 1024mb) will greatly improve the adobe programs' speed.
Also, if you have a smp compatible operating system (XP pro, NT, linux) a dual processor system may be an option you cant pass up...
My suggestion would be the older (and far less expensive) Athlon MP series -
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-152&catalog=302&depa=1
for the motherboard - $181.99
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-369&catalog=343&depa=1
for the cpu $121 x 2 = $242
Now ECC DDR is necessary - but since it is 266mhz (pc2100) then the price is not too bad $108
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-997-001&catalog=147&depa=1
now that is dual processor power for $531.99 plus video card cost... Not bad at all and under your $800 limit - I do highly recommend a power supply upgrade if you are going to do dual processor, or if you power supply is a non-brand name 350 watt or less.
Hope these suggestions have helped.
