My 12900K overclocks well if CSTATEs are disabled... why?

at the end I discovered why my OC is unstable.
after an entire day passed benching and trying I found the coulprit.

CSTATES makes my OC completely unstable when using AVX256 with Prime95.
Using sync all cores 5.1/4.0 with AVX offset 5 and OCTVB +2.

even if CSTATES is disabled it seems that my cores goes down to 500MHz when in idleand the CoreVID goes down to 0.850.
OCTVB seems to work ok since it boost to 5.3GHz when possible.

why CSTATES make my system crash instantly when I start Prime95?
and why disable CSTATES make my system completely stable?

as you can see from this screen with CSTATES disabled my OCTVB seems to work fine and the CPU throttles down to 500MHz, so what's the point of CSTATES if not in creating instability under OC? :D

Could be it's unable to adjust the voltage quickly enough between the different states? C states are used during idle periods, so if it's powering down individual cores, then ramping them up to full speed, that's a wide range of frequencies and voltages that it could be hitting, and any one of them could be causing the instability.
 
Agreed. Doesn't matter what chip (AMD or Intel), I always disable all C-States. No issues thus far.
 
at the end I discovered why my OC is unstable.
after an entire day passed benching and trying I found the coulprit.

CSTATES makes my OC completely unstable when using AVX256 with Prime95.
Using sync all cores 5.1/4.0 with AVX offset 5 and OCTVB +2.

Basically, when you change the voltage for your overclock, its not necessarily intuitively adding voltage across the entire curve. So, when your CPU drops down to different lower powered C-states, it may drop down into a voltage which is too low for your OC and become unstable. Even doing an "offset" voltage doesn't really help with this, as much as it seems like it should. Also, cranking up LLC is another thing which seems like it could fix this, but not always.

Intel has BIOS features now, where you can adjust the voltage along the entire curve. I assume that most decent motherboards have the feature available. if you have that feature, should be able to tweak the voltage at any point on the curve, creating stability for your overclock, over the entire curve.
