so, I'm playing BF42-DC all day(at least, when not on the phone with the girlfriend)


I'm thinking about building a server for DC again...just wondering which would be a better buy: P4 or Athlon (2500+ Barton?) for a DC server.

the AMD's price advantage is voided due to the fact I have a P4 on hand...so...I guess...any reason for me to go AMD instead of P4?
 
I have a dual Xeon board and matching 2.0Ghz Xeons availble for sale....$500 shipped....would make a PERFECT server system.
 
I have most of the parts; it's just a matter of going AMD or intel.

AMD will be better in the sense that the nforce2 is more flexible...but intel would be the cheaper solution as I'd just need to buy a board...and that extra $ can go to more RAM.


thanks for the offer on the dual Xeon; however I'm wnating to make it low profile...all it needs is a 30gb hdd, 512-1gb RAM, CPU, and NIC(s)
 
I would go for the Pentium 4. I think anyone thats not on a tight budget can say the Pentium 4's are the best choice between them and an Athlon XP.

I can't think of a single reason of going AMD instead of Intel unless you were thinking about an A64.
 
wow you people in bloomington got the ice bad, i'm over in champaign and we only got a lot of rain.

It rained here where im at in Mid-Missouri all day and then late this evening the temp really dropped and it all froze and started spitting snow. There was solid ice on the steps up to our top deck and i flew off the end of them trying to get down :).

yeah its been unusually warm this weekend, 50-60F, and tonight its going to get into the 20s. So i'm guessing tomorrow the streets will be skating rinks from all the left over rain :eek:
 
I don't know why Phas is taking my images and saving them; or making them brighter after saving.

Leave the PC, have the girlfriend come over and play a nice game of 1on1.:D
 
ermmm.....we had plenty of 1 on 1 time Dec 31-Jan 2. But, for that we played Q3A, as her PC won't do DC very well. (P3 1ghz, 256mb RAM, GF2 MX)

i wasn't doing the DC & the phone at the same time; I did the DC while she was taking a nap or doing laundry or generally unavailable.

Although, I could have done both with the headset...but...no.

If I had a girlfriend, I would be playing with her software instead of my PC.

If you have a p4 with hyperthreading you can run a BF server in the background and not even notice it.

The server is quite a lightweight application unless you get 30 players or something, but do you have a good enough connection for that?
 
T1 line to the apartment for the server; Cable Modem for my gaming system.

(sorry, I want my 4mbps down)
