From what I have been able to piece together from public sources of information, ThinkPads are made in IBM controlled factories in China and Mexico. They are also made by Wistron (largely in the Philippines) and by the LG-IBM joint venture in Korea.
Edit: Someone who had experience with a large number of ThinkPads once posted that the best quality ones come from Korea and the Philippines. Take it for what it's worth.
