Found it at Best Buy - installing now, but can't play till kids go to bed.

i regret selling my copy of gw. if factions has bigger pvp (not the 5vs5 stuff) i will think about picking another copy up. let us know how it is.

The two games are standalones, you don't need the original to play factions.

damn i didn't know that. guess i'll read up on it a bit. i never go hardcore into the first (the instancing turned me off big time)... but for no sub what more can you ask for?

So any news on how it is? What is the max amount of people that can party in one group now? I heard 16 and I also heard 20.

I planned on buying it, but no one has the Collector's Edition. So I have to wait.

i installed it, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Flipping through the manual I thought i saw 12 as the max for certain special kind of missions

I thought the first was horrible. The story was pretty decent, but the PvP and like no items.. wow gay. As long as you had Droks armor and a max damage weapon it didn't matter. There was really no way of improving yourself (besides your looks), the mods on the different weapons were a joke.. oooh $30k for an extra 5 life than the $1k one? Ya... dumb.

The only ONLY way I'd consider buying Factions was if they introduced 1v1 PVP.

I have a Collector's Edition reserved (I NEED NINJA BACKUP DANCERS...erm. Sorry), but I have to wait as they didn't make enough of them. My local gamestop doesn't even have one. Should be coming in the next week

Don't you love how they will take your reservation, then not reserve it, and still charge you full price? I had to wait 3weeks for CoD2 because they apparently had sold my copy, and didn't have any left, neither would they give me a refund.

Well, I wasn't trying to leave folks hanging as to how Factions is. I wanted to get a good feel for the game and get past the training missions before I responded. Anyway, I started a new character with the 2 new professions on the Factions continent, so I haven't really hit the PVP yet. I suppose I could log in with one of my lvl 20s from the previous game to check it out.

Anyway, the first thing that struck me was that there was a lot more personalization during character creation than the first. (This is something that was perhaps implemented a long time back - couldn't tell you since I hadn't created a new character in a while.) I could choose my characters face, hair color, style, starting garb color, etc. The graphics are still very nice. The mission types seem in-line with the first (escort, kill so-and-so, etc.). The assassin has the ability to chain moves together to create some devastating combos. I have yet to exploit the full abilitys of the ritualist, as they seem heavily reliant upon spells and calls to spirits for assistance.

Overall, I'd say if you enjoyed the first game, you'd probably enjoy this one even more. I'll report back next week after my knee replacement surgery on PVP. If folks are interested, I could take some screenshots and post em here.

my friend preordered his and got the game a couple of weeks early before the official release date. I think he wasn't allowed to play till 2 days before the release date.

Ive been playing factions more than oblivion since i started 4 days ago. heres my quick run-down on the improvements:
A nice chunk of the new areas are in urban settings- again it makes it feel like a new game. Characters from the first game can travel over into the new areas and factions characters can go to the first games areas if you have both. The number of characters slots has bumped up to 6 from 4 for me.
Im pretty sure that the pvp allows for factions (there are two factions) to hold certain areas of the map- a king of the hill kind of thing.

If they haven't changed the pvp system since the preview even last month there will be 12v12 faction battles included. The only catch is that they were arranged so you could only pick groups of 4 that would be added to two other random groups of 4 to make up the 12 man teams. This may have changed or will change- i havent tried those battles since the final build but ill update this thread tomorrow. I havent seen anything about 1v1 matches. the 24 man battles feel a lot larger that the 16 player battles, quite a bit more chaotic.

Shameless plug follows ;)
If anybody wants to form an alliance my guild is near maxed out at the 100 limit and were looking for some alliances with mature guilds now. Pm Banned User in-game if interested.

I wont be playing in any guild maybe just with another friend of mine. Is it going to still be enjoyable like the first one was? Also how dependent is it on teamwork and how is the settings, still crappy and gloomy like post-searing ascalon?

I can't speak for the whole game yet, as I've only explored approximately 15% of the continent, but here are a few screenshots. It's definately got an oriential architecture to it so far.

My son is huge into the original GW......he says this new one is very cool.....that should be a good endorsement.
I thought the graphics were good.
There is a strong oriental flavor.
My son used an assassin and says there are alot of moves and weapons choices.

The Collector's Edition will be shipped on May 5th due to some problems. That's why it's hard to be found currently.

I remember reading a interview and they said they are trying to give it a Asian theme to it. As long as it doesnt look depressing as post searing ascalon ill be happy. Im thinking of picking this up once I get bored of Oblivion.

It looks very, well, green. Heh. It's very bright and colourful from what I've seen.

I am a large GW fan. Thus I bought Factions the day it came out, installed it and began playing.

In comparison to the first, its much of the same. The story is interesting, but unlike the first it *seems* as though there is no real backstory. While the cinematic trailer explains this the game itself has no true opening sequence and you are thrown into the game wondering what the hell is going on. *However* and as I continue to play I see that their is indeed a backstory which is told as you continue on the main quest line. The NPC Friendly AI is much better at healing and helping you fight mobs, so thats a nice plus. So to conclude this paragraph, the Main Quest line while odd at first continuely unravels as you play and keeps you pretty well entertained. Though the voice acting in this is to me, not on par with the original GW, it is decent enough. Sometimes I feel as though the actors are conveying entirely the wrong emotion which in turn almost makes a remorseful scene comedic. O'well.

The two new character classes are pretty cool. I started with a Ritualist but as I did not feel comfortable with it switched back to my tried and true Warrior/Monk combo. While playing with other Ritualist be it Humans or NPC it really plays as a support role. Many of the talents feel as though it was built soley to boost the entire group in many ways. Now, for those people that love those roles it is a great class. Once again this is based on my experience with it playing through the first few quest.

I have not tried the Assassin but I can tell you, it is a very nice class. The Friendly Group NPC version is great and can really turn the tide of battle in your favor, with its "flash" ability to move around combat. Very nice.

To conclude these paragraphs, the two new classes are well balanced and blend nicely into any and all groups.

As for the PvP action, I haven't tried it too much, but from what I have played it is very fun. I may edit this section when I can deliver a better first-hand experience with it.

So, is Guild Wars Factions for you? Maybe. Many, and probably too many people, will come here and say "Why did you buy Factions, GW sucked anyways." If you are the proud owner of GW, and you enjoyed it Factions will be a wonderful experience that you won't be disspointed with.

The bottom line here is, if you enjoyed the first, you will more than likely enjoy this. It improves on an already great foundation and keeps you entertained. If you hated GW to begin with, then why are you even posting in this thread? ;) Sarcastic joke aside, if you didn't like GW you'd be better of not giving GW: Factions a try, as you will be as unimpressed as you were the first time.

To each his own. I am enjoying it.

I remember the first GW crafting: it was pathetic; gobs of resources, but weak-ass rewards (I regularly passed up trash from monsters that would pwn crafted items). Does the second GW fix crafting?

Sadley no. You still need lots of money and lots of mats to make the higher end gear. But in that vein its so easy to just farm for 30 minutes for all the mats you need. What is nice is that Factions connects to all your characters. So if your Main(s) have tons of mats in storage your new character in Faction has access to it. Meaning if you are like me, and horde mats in your storage then its not so much of a problem.

GW is a great game. As said by others , if you enjoy GW you will enjoy factions.

Is there any difference in the cheap/expensive stuff? I'm sorry.. I paid 200k on a warrior, only to have my other character that cost about 12k to be JUST as good as the warrior, minus like 5 life. This is what ruined GW for me, once you got to 20 it was like, ok what can I do? There's no point in getting better items, they add about 4life more than what I have.
