Hi.

My current system is a 2400+ running at 2230MHz, a 128Mb 9800 Pro, 1GB DDR400 Dual Channel, a 19" FS CRT, and a 16X DVD burner. My 21st birthday is coming up soon and I've been told that I can have four grand (AUD, ~70cUS to the dollar). With that four grand I want to buy a new beast. I haven't been paying attention to the PC scene for a while, and I'm out of touch. I want a PC that can be overclocked nicely and I want it to be considered l33t for at least three minutes after purchase. What should I get?

Thanks.

I should have been more specific sorry - that setup would kick serious arse but said four grand needs to cover new monitor, CPU, GPU, mobo, RAM, audio (I want an audigy), case, PSU, speakers, mouse + KB... everything, basically.

Thanks.

Here are the specs you should probably go for.

Case of your choice
High end PSU such as the Enermax 600Watt SLi PSU $200ish
Asus A8N-Premium $200
AMD Athlon 4000+ $472
2xBFG 7800GTX OC 256MB PCI-Express x16 (SLi) $1100
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS $100
2xST3400832AS Seagate SATA 7200RPM Hard drives $500 ($250 each)
Plextor 716SA or 720SA SATA DVD-R/RW Dual Layer/Dual Format $150
Secondary Optical drive of your choice $80 or less

$2902 (I included $100 for the case)

That leaves you plenty of cash for a damn good monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers of your choice. Or you could spend more on the CPU and go even higher end. That's a higher end gaming PC and should last awhile and take anything you can throw at it.

agreed, that is one hell of a power house with spare cash left over

Heres what I did.
use your old case. drill some holes for more cooling (16 dollar hole saw and a new spare door from Directron,5bucks)
PC Power and cooling 510 SLI (direct from company 219)
BFG 7800 GTX x 2 from the cheapest source~550 x 2
Motherboard Bundle J and N computers or Monarch: FX-57,HyperX-2G, ASUS A8N SLI-Deluxe ~ 1600 ( a dual core 4800 would also be cool.)
You just spent roughly 2800 bucks, have all the stuff you need and the bundle is nice and tested for stability by the assemblers.
I would recommend using on board sound for a short while as Creative is about to launch their new X-Fi boards which should be a very cool deal.
Now youve got about 1200 dollars to spend on the rest of the miscellaneous stuff you need. Dell is selling the 2001 FP ultrasharp for around 500 now on a good day. That leaves you with 700 dollars to spend on girls or beer or gas.Cheers!
