Enclosure w/ 1TB or Plug-n-Play Backup?

I wonder, which option is ultimately more reliable? Using Windows 7 64 Professional Backup & Restore with a 1TB Caviar Green and an external hard drive enclosure? Or a brand name external backup solution with third party software, something from Seagate, Western Digital or LaCie for instance?

Which option would you choose?
