can I hook 1 crt and 1 lcd up to the same video card and run dual monitors?

one on the d-sub and one on the DVI? or would that be a problem and I'd have to buy a PCI video card?

Yes, you can do two displays with one video card as long as the card has two outputs.

Little more info would help like brand and model number of your video card.
 
its a 9800xt and I'll be hooking a viewsonic vp171b and a sony g520p up to it. thanks to those who already helped.
