Any with VT extensions? I'd love to have a little mini/nano/pico itx box with 3-4 light load vm's on it.

i dont believe so.. have you tried looking at the mitx atom boards? i know they do.

and they will be shipping dual cores soon as well.

Why do you need VT extensions? Trying to run a 64-bit VM? You probably won't get any performance improvement by the VT extensions themselves; especially since you say that the VMs are light load anyway.

As far as I know, only Intel and AMD have hardware virtualization technology in their CPUs.

Nope.

The Via Nano CPU has support to Intel Virtualization, as you can see on Wikipedia:
"Virtualization technology (Intel compatible implementation)"

Neat-o. There's only a brief mention of virtualization support in the white paper, but none on the product web page. http://www.via.com.tw/en/downloads/whitepapers/processors/WP080529VIA_Nano.pdf

I'll keep the Nano in mind if they make a low cost miniITX board since Intel disables it on low cost chips.

If you're going the intel route, Zotac has an NF630 based miniITX board for $60 at the egg, and a 610 based for $40. It's specs are mostly less than intels; but from looking at the mobo manual it may have some basic OC features, although since it doesn't show what's behind the System Clocks and FSB&Memory Config pages it's not possible to know how much, the only visible options are NB speed and Cpu multiplier.

Does VT really make that much of an appreciable difference? I ran a few VMs on the old s940 opterons. they seemed quick enough.

I believe KVM (linux) requires VT which is why I am looking for a via cpu with the extensions.
