i have an asus a7n8x deluxe mobo and a 2500 amd barton. when i go into windows xp home and look under my system seetings it says that the processor is only running at 1.09. i dont understand this.

set your fsb to 166
its only at 100 right now

100x11=1.1ghz
100x166=1.8ghz

ok i did that thanks. what would happen if i set it to 200 would that screw up my processor.

that would depend on your memory, default multi for the 2500 is 11, so if you punch the FSB up to 200 you would be cruising at 2.2GHZ (equivalent to 3200+)on the proc, if you monitor your temps closely, it should be able to do it, the big limiter will be your memory, if it's PC3200 no worries, but if its 2700 you may not boot, in which case reset the cmos (via the mobo jumper) and start over.

I'd give it a shot... if it doesn't boot, just reset the cmos. If you can run it at a 200Mhz FSB you will notice a pretty good performance boost over 166, make sure you watch temps, and run a memory intensive app to validate that it runs solid - folding@home is a good app - make sure you join team [H] if you haven't already ([H] = team number 33)
