How big are the real life differences in these 2 cards?

Its a big moot point with me over price, gotta shave a few extra £££'s off my spec :(

Try reading a review. Like the ones from this very site. Then you can see if its worth it to you or not.

i cant see anyone spending an extra 200 for a 4% increase but that is just me...

Its more than 4% for me. And its not $200 more.

This is exactly why I said read the reviews, because of false blanket statements like that.

The price difference is closer to $135 for ATi and $165 if you go with a cheaper Sapphire 9800P. $432 v. $298 v. $268. Roughly.

Composite speed difference is only 2.61%, composite meaning across a wide selection of games (962.5 v. 938). Raw clock difference is 7.9% (412/365 v. 380/340). Raw speed difference is about 9.1%, due to some optimizations. Maximum difference is on the order of 15%. Note that the XT uses DDRII which has higher latency than the DDRI found on the 9800P 128, which means it's effectively clocked lower.

Much of the XT's speed benefit comes from enhanced stock cooling, which is excellent. Good OC for an XT is 440/405-445/410. I manage 440/385 on my 9800P 128, although I know many who can get a higher core than me; that's 6.1% higher than XT stock speeds. The latency makes about 4.5-5% speed difference so it's closer to 8.6%. But then the better design as mentioned before is at least 1.2% + negating latency of 4.5%, so effectively 3.5%. The XT overclocks 9%, so it remains roughly 5.5% faster after OC is considered. Thus it's overclocking overhead loses 3.6% speed versus a well-cooled 9800P 128, or 39.6%. Therefore the overall composite score difference with relative-clock overclocking is 1.58% higher on the XT. Meager amount for >$125 difference.

it's not so much the speed as the ability to do calculus, and a much, much nicer display that does pretty print and everything. Also, the 92+ has the keyboard, right? I have an 89...does pretty much everything I want.

Now TI has that voyager 500 thinger, it's even more swank than any of the 92s were.

I've had an 89 for around 4 years or maybe a little more. Little rough around the edges but it's an awesome calculator. I like the screen on it (although it's smaller) better than what was on the 92s at the time, they had big dull barfy colored ones while the 89 was crisp and black.

But I digress.

Get the 9800 pro 256mb model.
