Anyone seen any benchs for a 9700pro in a DX9 game? Something like the "higly anticipated dx9 game" on x-bit?

I was wondering how it compares to a 9600XT... which one would be the better deal...

The sapphire 9600 XT comes with free hl2. Do what you like with that piece of information.

The 9700pro is a much better card than the 9600. Do what you like with that piece of information.

The 9700pro is 8x1 right? And the 9600XT is 4x1 or 4x2?

Any arch. advantages with the 9600xt over the 9700pro?

Isnt this also a free download via steam(ing pile of...)?

Why are you comparing the 9700 pro to the 9600 XT? A 9600 XT is cheaper than a 9700 pro so if you want a cheaper card with HL2 then get the 9600 Xt but if you want to spend some more cash on the 9700 pro for the extra performance then do so.

At my computer store, www.arc.com.au , a Radeon 9700 Pro 128Mb will cost $469 AUD and the 128 MB DDR 9600XT Radeon will cost $253 AUD. So the 9700 pro better be heaps faster if the 9600 xt can be bought for half to three quarters of the price of the 9700 pro. The 9600's are budget cards. Anyting over $450 AUD is definitely not a budget card.

The 9700 pro destroys the 9600XT. Sorry to you aussies who's prices for video cards lag about 6 months behind the rest of the world it seems.

Just making sure I understand my options is all. THe price difference is only like $30-$50 dollars and is right around the $200 sweet spot.

PS: Thanks Brent!

Well in Australia the 9700 isn't popular. rarely reviewed by computer magazines. The 9600 XT has been recommended by pc powerplay and Australian pc authority so the 9600 XT seems to be the most bang for buck graphic card on the australian market. check out www.arc.com.au (I doubt that there are any stores in sydney better than arc.). Well at least my 9600 XT destroys my old GF4mx440se.

thats odd considering the 9700Pro was released over 1 year ago, around September 2002 and was the start of ATI's dominance for over a year in the graphics wars

In the january issue of pcpowerplay there was a 3 page article about the 9800 XT vs. geforcefx5950. I didn't find the article helpful because I am not interested in cards that I can't afford. But in the febraury issue pcpowerplay in all their wisdom published a review of the 9600 XT vs. geforcefx 5700 ultra, to help out the people looking for budget cards. They missed the 9700's altogether. If you check the pricelists at www.arc.com.au . You see dozens of 9600's and 9800's but only a few 9700's.

PcPowerplay summary- superior AA/AF implementation and free HL2 are just enough to put the 9600 XT ahead

I have a radeon 9700 pro and a 9600 pro in my laptop and the 9700 pro totally thrashes the 9600 pro.

Newegg has the Powercolor Evil Commando 2 9700 Pro for 219$(US). There's a review for it over at Hardocp, and the resources tab for the card at newegg has a few other reviews. It's REALLY good, and I can't wait for mine to come in tomorrow.

Edit : Oh man, it came today. Now I have to wait 2 days to use it instead of one :(

mwave.com has the Powercolor 9700 PRO retail for $202, and i think newegg had it for like $220, caught my eye the other day and ive been trying to convince a couple friends they need it ;)

thats really not much more than the price of many of the 9600XT cards.

just look at the performance difference and you decide
graphics cards of 2003 thingy
