I was just wondering if there is any reason at all to get a 6800 ultra over the GT. To me it seems like the same situation as the 9800xt and the 9800pro(if you get the same core). The GT is just underclocked, right? So i could easily just oc it to the speed of the Ultra, give or take?

yeah alot of ultras are going higher than gt's of course, they have faster ram too.

6800GT max beneficial OC is around 435/1150 if you are very lucky. Average is like 400/1100. Watercooling usually can't get the card past 435 without throttling (i.e. you can have a higher core speed like 450mhz but the framerates will be slower) due to lack of power with only a single molex.

6800U max OC is around 460/1300 fan cooled. Many 6800U cards come overclocked out of the box at 425/1100. With watercooling you can hit 490/1300. Ultra is not held back because it has dual molex.

Also, the 6800GT is DVI/VGA, and the 6800U is Dual DVI, which some may want. Plus the 6800U has a bigger fan so with stock cooling the 6800U will likely be running cooler than the 6800GT when both are the same clockspeed.

If you arent looking to spend $500 on a video card, but still want the high end performance then the GT is the answer.

The GeForce 6800GT may just be the best gaming card for the price.
