Hi Folks..,

Is there available a cheap(er) firewire controller card (or preferably with USB 2.0 combo card) that support 66mhz PCI operation? I know of a Siig firewire, USB 2.0 and SATA combo controller but it's a bit too expensive.

Thanks.

hmmmm....

seems its not that simple

"PCI 2.1 maximum clock speed is 33MHz. 66MHz capability is an
extension, making 66MHz PCI a different spec. I quote from the PCI Local Bus
Specification, Chapter 7 -- 66MHz PCI Specification:

"The 66MHz PCI bus is a compatible superset of PCI designed to
operate up to a maximum clock speed of 66 MHz."

If a card does not pull up the M66EN signal, then it is an error for the
motherboard to clock it at anything greater then 33MHz, and a card can
depend on this."

let me do some more research ;)
Ive never owned a 32\66

what mobo do you have that has pci that is 32bit and 66mhz ? i have never seen one...

Now if you have a 66Mhz 64bit pci slot 3.3v A.K.A. pci-x you can pickup a firewire card from fwdepot.com

I have a Gygabyte MPX mobo with 64bit 66Mhz slots. I already have a 64bit 66Mhz card in one of the so I want a 66Mhz card so the bus doesn't step down to 33Mhz speed. I've seen some 64 bit cards like you pointed out (mostly fw800) but the prices seems rather steep since I only need fw400.
Thanks for the pointer though!
