Watercooled GPU & GPU; do I need to block the VRM's and x570 or use a fan even?

Yup, literally 0 airflow other than whatever radiates or convects. My last two builds have had no case airflow... everything got a water block... but now water blocked chipsets seem to be rare.

Watercooled GPU & GPU; do I need to block the VRM's and x570 or use a fan even?

I'm okay with these x570's that have fans since nearly everyone says they rarely turn on and if they do they are silent anyways... but without any actual airflow in the case I wonder if that fan wont kick into high gear... or I wonder if the upcoming Crosshair 8 Dark Hero won't overheat...

Watercooled GPU & GPU; do I need to block the VRM's and x570 or use a fan even?

What are my options here? My current & recently broken Rampage V Extreme setup has the CPU and 1080 Ti (Hydrocopper) water-blocked, and I also put a Watercool.de Heatkiller MB-X kit on it so the VRM and chipset are water cooled as well. It all sits in a Corsair Carbide 540 cube without a...

The Top 5 Best Motherboards of All Time

I wouldn't ding it for being mATX. Hell, that's a plus! Now that multi gpu setups are fading... what is all that extra board for? I had SLi on the Gene, watercooled, and an audio card sammiched in between. One of my favorite builds and the Gene made it happen... all the features and...

The Top 5 Best Motherboards of All Time

I nominate the Rampage III Gene. Socket 1366 goodness in a mATX format: just enough room for SLi and a sound card if you want it. It was my perfect motherboard.

What's with PSU's almost all being at the bottom? Bad idea for water cooling, no?

@Nobu I'd go with the 303 anyways; I was just acknowledging that the 301 is technically also an option. @Kardonxt & @GotNoRice I'm an EE who has water-cooled everything for over a decade & that's not a brag: what I'm getting at is that as an EE, I can't help but think "WTF?!?!, who designs a...

Current GPU fried, RTX 30X0's delayed: best "backup" video card to get by with?

So is Newegg gouging here? Not that I'd buy Colorful myself anyways, but WHOAH!

What's with PSU's almost all being at the bottom? Bad idea for water cooling, no?

I've noticed that most current mainstream cases seem to mount the PSU below the motherboard. I'm guessing that this is so the PSU doesn't have to suck in warmer air and the CPU can hang out in the warmer air instead? I read that power cables might seem easier to route from below (shorter), but...

Current GPU fried, RTX 30X0's delayed: best "backup" video card to get by with?

1080Ti is dead so I'm looking for something just to get by with and still be able to use the computer mostly, maybe just not as capable for gaming. If I can run some basic games, that would be great but I'm not looking for much. After I can actually get my hands on a RTX 3080, then I would...

My Rampage V Extreme build might be toast... looking for replacement that supports waterblocks.

Maybe its just a virus or something I can easily fix, but even if its just a bad video card (pixels are chunking up and then things freeze and crash, started while playing Rainbow 6 Siege and now windows even takes a crap)... probably time to revamp the whole thing since it has been 5 years...

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

Too early? I'd say that the email that I got over a week after I made my cross ship deposit saying "yeah, we don't have that card to cross-ship even though we said we did when you called in for the exact purpose of avoiding this type of situation", was what "got my panties in a bunch too...

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

My whole system is otherwise watercool blocks, and in the past, I did buy their blocks for GPU's, but the convenience of buying it all "ready to go" does save time. While I enjoy my hobbies, fact is that my life has gotten busier than it once was. I've done at least a dozen GPU blocks, and I...

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

No, the details are different: 1. Had an issue, correct. 2. Called company to make sure they had a part available for cross-ship, and they said that they did. Had they not had a part available, I wouldn't have given a deposit and looked into alternatives (buy a backup card while I send mine...

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: A few days after I started this thread, I still hadn't replied to EVGA's last email... mulling over my options, and life got busy. Anyways, EVGA sent me a new email: a card was sent out. Without knowing what they were sending, I waited to see... and when I opened the box...

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

I guess. I'll just be running my 3440x1440 at 1920x1080 for a month. PITA IMO, but yeah, it's technically workable. I guess the part I left out is that I use this for work also, and so running all my autocad and solidworks stuff on it that I need is just going to be shitty... trying to avoid it.

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

Alright, thanks for the perspective. You are correct... they aren't responsible for keeping me up and running. I guess its time to buy a backup card or make this a backup and buy a new one.

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

-If they didn't have a replacement block? They DON'T have a replacement block. That is the whole point. -No, its not a 'deposit', my credit card was charged $799.99 by EVGA on January 13th!, and yesterday they finally inform me that they actually didn't have a replacement on hand to exchange...

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

Except that my old cards aren't compatible for one reason or another... my 3440x1440 monitor needs the display-link and my older cards don't have that. Sure, I could buy a backup... so I guess that's just the cost of using a warranty?

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

I want what I paid for. If a company doesn't/can't keep replacements for warranty on hand for something, then its on them, no? This is how many companies do it. My own company does this. They offered the cross-ship warranty replacement, so I took it and made the $800 deposit after being...

EVGA doesn't really support the hydro copper cards very well... *edit: they came through!

My EVGA 980 Ti hydro copper started "flickering" the display when in-game a few months ago. I thought it might just be a driver issue since if I window a game, it was fine. When playing Call of Duty BO 3 or similar, the screen just flickers like a TV camera recording a LCD screen. When...

The Natural Outcome Of The Encryption Wars In The U.S.

The Natural Outcome Of The Encryption Wars In The U.S.

In order to use a "back-door key", the agency would have to gain access to the phone somehow. Other than physically obtaining the phone, the next best method would be via a data connection. So at some point, that physically isolated code would have to be connected to the internet. Also, if...

the decreasing need for huge radiators

nintari, I see something that might be a concern and maybe causing some problems on that CPU. Does the outlet from the CPU block just drop into the top of the tank? This leads me to believe that if you were to cut the power to pumps, the water in the CPU block would dump into the tank and air...

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB3 for Rampage 5 Extreme?

Okay, thats what I thought. So the card itself is pretty much useless if I am just running optical to an external decoder anyways (In my case, a Logitech 5.1 system). I had that and thought it was a good idea. Its a pain in the ass to open up for cleaning. Its really just the screen from a faucet inside a compression fitting. Because its a royal pain to clean, I didn't, so it became a flow restriction. It never killed my pumps though, no matter how...

    cleaning radiators and water block

When I did it, it went something like this: 1. replace all the tubing (tygon). It tends to absorb things that discolor the water and it seems to also build up a film inside that is hard to remove. I could try to scrub it, but getting new tygon isn't that expensive, so... 2. replace all the...
