i havent built a pc with a video card for a few years / havent been playing much games, now im confused with all the model numbers etc.. used to be easy.

thanks for the replys, as soon as im put my system back together i will try these programs, has anyone heard of CPU MSR? its made to control the power now/ speed step type functions of mobile processors on desktop boards.
i aquired 3 mobile athlon processors from compaq evo laptops-
i have a athlon 1400, 1500, 1600,
they ran at 1.2 , 1.3, and 1.4 ghz in the laptops.
they run at around 800-990 mhz in my epox 8k3mmi board, which dont think has multiplier settings. i set my jumpers to 333fsb and overclocked...
i think close to even intake and exuast would be the obvious choice.
my SFF system as a nice exuast system, so i installed a 80mm intake fan in the side by the pci & AGP and now it runs even cooler, because it breaths even better with a fan assisting the exuast
i cant get my system past 1.9ish ghz from the stock 1.83, i think the problem is there is no voltage control on the processor in my bios..

well, going back to school, and recent car problems leaves me low on $$.

the reason your blacks are gray... its a LCD.
they are backlit and they dont do dark good. you want to look for one with the hights contrast ratio possible, or look at other display types.
lcds are very nice for surfing and text. not so much for movies and games
runco, sony, NEC, make good ones, da-lite screens are very good.
i've played unreal on a infocus hd projector and it was sick. almost gave me motion sickness.
for gaming, look into a NEC or trinitron CRT.
as far as games and movies, CRT are better no contest in my opnion. ive owned a few of both displays..
LCD= usually 16.7 million colors, usually around 450:1 contrast.
CRT= unlimited colors. way better contrast (makes more realistic image)
NEC makes really good displays in my opnion. ive owned sevral.
as far as gaming and movies, a good crt will always shine compared to a good lcd. just my opnion.
LCD display = usually 16.7 million colors
CRT = unlimited colors. and blacks are black.
often people overlook another great display option.. the projector/ DLP projector, they offer high contrast ratio and a very large picture. and there way easier to move. alot are way cheaper then plasma displays. ive played unreal 2003 on a dlp hdtv projector and it almost gave me motion...
