I bought a 480w ThermalTake PoS and the clunker barely put out 11 volts. I thought I killed my system somehow at first until I checked the voltages with a Fluke. Finally got it to boot barebones, and sure enough, the 12 volt supply was fubar. Dropped even lower under load until it shut off...
I've got a TR2-M2 (thermaltake) 3 speed on my 2800+ and it's super quiet in Fast speed. CPU temp ~32C.

Try manually installing from the CD vice the installer (should be the setup.exe under the DVDDcdr directory).
I've seen the install discs not recognize the hardware before and the web updater not recognize the install disc for the DVD codec.
I sold my old PNY 4400 to a guy who fried it and he also got it RMA'd for a FX5600, so I doubt it was a mistake. Better than nothing for a dead board I guess.
