I'm building a HTPC system based around an ASRock Z97E-itx/AC with an i5-4690K CPU. I'm looking at 16 GB of RAM to run some VMs in the background, and will be using the iGPU as well.
I've pretty much narrowed my selection down to two kits,
G.SKILL RipjawsX F3-2133C11D-16GXL 16GB 2X8GB...
Cutting it fairly fine to the wire as Sugarsync free accounts are being terminated in a week, but I'm still hunting for a replacement that's not lacking in 2 features...
1) The ability to sync arbitrary folders on my computer
2) The ability to upload photos from an android device...
Unfortunately, both the BenQ and the HP are a bit above my price range.
I'm mostly playing older games these days, so my GTX 580 should be OK to drive 1440p for stuff like Metro 2033 and Civ V based on the reviews on [H]
If I feel the need for more horsepower, I could always add a second GTX...
I'm close to pulling the trigger on the QNIX QX2710 matte version, just waiting on a response from green-sum about his perfect pixel policy.
NCX's review makes it sound like a good budget alternative to the much more expensive Samsung, Viewsonic, BenQ, etc 27" monitors, though I'm more...
Can anyone confirm whether the brightness adjustment on the monitor actually adjusts backlight level, or if it just adjusts the digital white level as tftcentral found when they reviewed the Achieva Shimian?
I realize that this question has been asked before, but with the wealth of information out there, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.
My existing LG 246WP-BN is nearing death, and I'm shopping around for a replacement with the following characteristics:
1920x1200 or higher resolution
24" or...
Just posting to say thanks for the info about how to replace the bad capacitors. My L246WP died a slow and painful death where it took longer and longer for it to turn on, while the power LED flashed on and off. I replaced the two 10v 3300uF capacitors with a pair of 16v 3300uF capacitors, and...
As the title says, I'm looking for some advice on a keyboard to replace the cheapo Logitech media keyboard I'm using (an MX230 IIRC, but I could be extremely wrong on that). I find it to be soft and lacking in feedback. I have good memories of the older keytronics membrane keyboards, and I also...
So my old microphone solution (a cheapass logitech behind the head headset) has bit the dust, and I'm looking for a replacement...
But not simply a direct replacement.
I've got a decent? set of 5.1 speakers for my desktop, so I'd be OK with just a microphone to replace, I've seen people...
Lots it would seem...
I've created a google spreadsheet of their feature lists because the ASUS website's comparison tool isn't working right now.

Actually, at least part commonly advertised as 1.65V is on the compatibility list, CMX6GX3M3A1600C9.
I haven't looked at any of the others, so I can't say if there are more
For reference, CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 is rated to 1.65V but has SPD defined voltage of 1.5V according to...
I picked it up from Canada Computers, they had one in their display case at the location I was at. Their other locations might have some. For reference, I'm in Ottawa, Ontario.
For what it's worth, Gigabyte has posted their memory compatibility lists for the UD4, UD5, and UD7 boards on their site.

Somewhat amusingly, I'm in the opposite situation, I've got the CPU (an i7-2600K), but I'm hunting for a motherboard other than a UD4 or P8P67Pro. I've ordered a UD7 from an online retailer that claims to have stock, so we'll see if it arrives before I give in and buy a UD4 locally.
Cannydog,
I'm wondering; from your photo, it looks like a 3x120 might fit up top if you took a dremel to the case to open it up a bit. Is there enough space up there, or would you have to cut up the plastic and mesh top to make things work?
It's kind of funny that you decided to omit Sandy Bridge from the poll options...
You see, up until 9am this morning, the most recent desktop CPU that I own would have been the one in my desktop, an Opteron 165 running at 2.97 GHz, but I happened to mention how I was planning on building a...
I'm planning on building a new PC with 8 gigs of memory in January once Sandy Bridge is released. At the moment, I'm running a dual core Opteron on a socket 939 motherboard with DDR RAM, so I need to buy new memory.
Having said that, boxing day is tomorrow, and I can get some pretty good...
For those telling the OP that he's bottlenecked, while he may not be getting the most out of his card, his CPU isn't the key limiting factor in his graphics scores as compared to the following example, which scores a substantially higher score than his what the OP's 570 scores, while being...
No kidding, I'm comming from an 8800 GTX, so I know what you mean about making a difference. One of the best upgrades I've ever made. (Though I'm still rocking an Opteron 165 @ 2.97 GHz and 2GB of RAM on an nForce 4 motherboard...)
I look for build quality, low noise, and high quality output power.
I've used seasonic power supplies for quite a few years and have been happy with each one that I've used.
What's the current expected release date for AMD's new high-end cards? I'm debating jumping on a 68xx card if they're as good as they look, but holding off until the 69xx cards come out sounds like it could pay off bigtime in terms of performance.
That's good to hear. Unfortunately, I already bought my replacement mouse, another Copperhead. (Seeing as it was in stock for a reasonable price at my local computer store, and I was getting sick of the random double-clicks...)
And I don't have it in my budget to pick up both.
And my local...
How does the Lachesis compare to the Copperhead in terms of hand feel? My copperhead is on its way out (left mouse button registering too many clicks), and I need a replacement. I'm torn between:
1) Another copperhead
2) A Lachesis
3) A Boomslang
1 has the advantage of familiarity, 2 has...
If it's within your budget, I'd suggest looking at 24" monitors, many have component video connections available, and they can display full resolution 1080p, something that no 22" I know of can do.
At the moment I'm running an LG246WP-BN and an old Dell P991 CRT.
Unfortunately for me, the Dell is dying, and I want to replace it with a nice new LCD, that will go well with my LG.
I know that I want either a 20" 4:3, or a 24"+ 16:10 panel, either UXGA or WUXGA.
What are some good...
I hate being inflammatory with a response, but...
1) I enjoy FPSes.
2) I have a LG 246WP
3) I do NOT have issues with pixel response, input lag, OR text sharpness.
*note* I am connecting it via DVI, from a GF8800GTX, running at 1920x1200/60Hz
