MSI have asked me to pass my eye over one of their mainstream Z170 boards, the Z170 G43 plus. Costing around £100 it hits an important price point and
it will be interesting to see the selection of features MSI went with considering the budget.
In the package I got the following...
I've recently moved over to the MSI GS30 and thought I would share some benchmarks of what this 1.2kg notebook can do when plugged into the gaming dock with a titan X in it :D

Total: 15327
Graphics Score 20693
Physics Score 10038
Combined Score 7114...
What can you do with an old machine? Well it does depend on the machine.
BUT with the right machine it turns out, quite a bit.
The acer aspire 5935G, first glance just a typical machine of the era:
T6600 2.2ghz core 2
4GB DDR3 PC6400 800mhz
HD4570 512MB DDR2
500GB 5400rpm HDD...
Not able to find one with the right connector?
(A note, power supplies are dangerous, take care to discharge before taking them apart, mods of this kind WILL void any and ALL warranties attached to the brick or whatever you attach it to)
No problem.
Take one dell slimline 240W adaptor...
Well I finished exams recently and decided to see if I could move back to the thermaltake case with the H50.
I managed to do it with some pretty impressive results:
CPU temp max (1055t hex core @ 4.06ghz): 50C
GPU Temp max (3dmark vantage): 60C
GPU = 5850 @ 1000/1225 with zalman...
Looking at your 5970 review I would say you are getting throttling if you look at the power figures for load stock vs. overclock and temperature, both far too small an increase considering the voltage and clock speed increase.
I'm using a thermaltake lanparty light and have just got myself an Asrock p55m pro. It has S775 mounts along with the new ones. This leaves a wide range of coolers to play with. I was looking at this one. At only 45mm high its certainly going to breathe in the case and with no NB or VRM cooling...
How compact and high performing could you make a mini ITX system?
Especially with the new i5 platform (1 chipset). You put laptop style connectors (MXM (go silly for 2?), ram, mini PCI-e and wireless aerial port on the back panel). Ship it with a gfx/CPU/chipset cooler with optional fan...

Wow took them awile to get this board it since its obviously a very similar PCB to the DDR2 version :o
Well I have it installed. Seems to be running fine, set the BCLK to 200 and my CPU/VTT volts to 1.325 and the system has not complained. Ram is at 800mhz (1600DDR) 8-8-8-20 at 1.5v (up from 666mhz 9-9-9-20).
Has all the options of the P6T in the bios even though the website suggests it does...
Board 1: Dead
Board 2: Yay working! First thing: Replaced the NB cooler and PWM cooler, replaced with noctua tower and thermalright HR-09 type 3.
CPU: 940 Black edition running @ 3.8ghz 1.52v
Mobo: 200mhz ref clock, 2800mhz NB clock, 2000mhz HTT clock
RAM: 533mhz (1066DDR) 5-5-5-18...
Well my dead P45-T2RS came back to me, all zombie and risen from the dead. Its apparantly now gone from a revision A0C to an A0D. There are some rubber washers on the NB heatsink and some other minor things.
Just be aware I had two AOC revision boards die on me so there might be a problem...

Specs are below. Wish the cable length on the in built fans was longer so it could go round the back :)
Well I have been putting this system together, firstly I had a couple of PMs regarding the mobo.
It came from overclockers.co.uk (revA3)
I have found the 912 bios to be unstable and would not recommend it unless you need it.
Q6600 SLACR @ 3.4ghz
Lanparty JR p45-t2rs @ 425mhz
4gb corsair...
