I'm not getting Conroe ATM. I always like to stay about a year behind the curve. That way, when I do buy, the smoke has settled, hardware/software issues have been resolved, and the prices are far cheaper.
Case in point, I just bought a P_D 920.
^^^ No go. As it is now, the 2x2 only fits in the lower spot of the 2x4 connector. Powering on makes the keyboard LED's flash, the HDD spins up and there's some clicking like it's reading the MBR. After that, nothing.
I just received an Intel 955xbk mobo, but am lacking the 2x2 -> 2x4 cpu power adapter. One's en route, but in the interest of making sure everything is working, is there anyway I can get this thing to POST? Like without a CPU or by hooking the 2x2 up and somehow setting the thing in single-cpu...
I've got 2x512 MB Patriot, 2-3-2-5. I managed to get one of the sticks up to 490 MHz at CL=2.5. $60 shipped.

I just re-installed HL2 and completely updated it, and for some reason, there is no ammo box/counter thing in game. It's hard to play when you have no idea how much ammo you have left. Does anyone know how to get it back?
I've got a 3.0c that I'll let go for $125 shipped. email me if interested, I'll reply faster that way: james<period>evans<a w/ circle>colorado<period>edu. Make topic "3.0c FS", I have an agressive mail filter.

I'll echo the top guys reply. I always thought that AMD's were the end-all for CPU's until i built my first Intel machine. Gaming isn't the only thing computers can do, and IMO, I'd gladly trade a little game performace for the overall "feel" of a faster computer.
One of my roommates is moving out of the apartment, and he's taking the DSL modem/gateway/somethingorother with him. I want ot buy one, but I was wondering if you have to buy a modem that is identicle to the one the ISP gives you or will any DSL modem do? Thanks for any input.

Are they talking about the screenshots from the NV40 launch? I thought it was known that NVidia was comparing PS 1.x to PS 3.0. Does someone have a link to that article?? I could've sworn that NVidia said it was PS1.x and PS 3.0.
You'd think that after all the NV3x has been though, NV would get rid of the optimizations. If FW 60.72 becomes the standard, I'll be very disappoited.
Also, you can't deny that the Max Payne screenie is a little incriminating. I mean, a big block? What for?
For the two years before I started building my own comps, I played games with a P3 550MHz, 128MB RAM and Intel Integrated Graphics.
Also, I think there's something about having old hardware and being good at FPS's. My freshmen year in college I had the above comp and just whomped everybody...
Last time I heard anything it was like this:
x800 Pro (12 pipes, GDDR, 256bit memory) - 4/26
x800 XT (16 pipes, GDDR, 256bit memory) - 5/31
x800 SE (8 pipes, DDR, 128bit memory) - Between 4/26 and 5/31
I'll going to wait to buy either the 6800non-U or the x800 Pro until someone comes out...
Hey everybody. I have this board and it has two SATA ports labled SATA0 and SATA1. Does this mean if I hook up two drives to the above ports it will be in RAID0 mode?
For that $230 you could get a 3.0C. All their steppings (SL6WK or SL6WU) have been known to OC really well. I've got mine clocked to 3.51GHz noramlly, 3.59GHz for benching.

Some PE boards (like mine), have PATesque functions. It gives you a slight boost in memory bandwidth.
As long as you have your own video card, don't bother with integrated video. If you have a G board, be sure to set "AGP Aperature" to 0 in the BIOS so it doesn't use your memory for...
the x800 will have a core speed of 1.8 GHz, 64 pipes, biologically-based memory modules with a capacity of about 1.8 TB. It will play UT2007 at roughly 62 FPS with 32xAA and 1024xAF. In addition, it will do your taxes, attain world peace and give you blowjob so long as you have the required...
To be honest, I've never seen one for sale. They've been on the Gainward site for a while, and one of them was at CeBit 2004, but other than that I have no idea.
Maybe Gainward's feeling left out of the "Paper Launch Club".
Gainward has been making water blocks for their high end FX line for a while now. That's the best I've seen.
I don't think we should be mad at ATI or NVidia, but the board partners. In most cases, it's the partners that actually assemble the chips onto the PCB, and they get the final say as...
1.) up Vcore a notch, reboot, check for stability
2.) if unstable, up Vdimm a notch, reboot, check for stability
3.) if unstable, set FSB:MEM ratio to 5:4 or 3:2, reboot, check for stability
4.) if unstable, loosen memory timings (make higher numbers), reboot, check for stability
5.) if all...
I'm gonna bet you have the SL6WK stepping right? I've got the same CPU, and some King's HypX PC4000 on the way. I was hoping to do the same thing as you. I hear the HyperX doesn't like to go far beyond it's rated speeds, but if I get 3.75 stable, I'll be fine.
Also, are you using water setup?
I have a Gigabyte GA-8iPE1000 Pro mobo, and the BIOS only allows the Vdimm to go up to 2.8V. Has anyone heard of a way to mod it so that the RAM can run at 2.9 or 3.0V?
Anyone remember the Voodoo 5 6000? It seems it would be cheaper if NV would include their own power converter and plug for the card. Well, it might be cheaper than buying a new PSU.
