Getting the MAC of device on other end of line.

Without managed switches where you can view the mac-address table, this is an extremely difficult task. You can probably look at the data hitting a particular computer and pull the MAC addresses but that means nothing on a flat network, which yours is. You will be forced to map this physically.

    Xim4 for sale on the 28th, $124.99

Sorry, no link - Google is your friend. I am at work and their site is blocked. I read about it on their forums this morning. They claim a much larger production run on this one. Apparently the Xim3 sold out in less than three minutes. This will be my first attempt to purchase one.

Advice on SFF gaming build that's suitable for carry-on luggage

First question: How are you a "noobie, 9 months" but started this thread in 2013? Second question: With the new rules on electronics on aircraft, you wouldn't be able to travel with this unless you are traveling with an LCD and want to put it together and boot it every time you go through...

Really? I have, lots of time, even on military bases in the middle east where tactical conditions are less than ideal. Good cable and good Cisco hardware usually equals pretty solid performance.

Cisco Network and Switch for CCNA Practice

There is an advantage to having the actual hardware to work with, but using emulation software comes a close second. There are a few places online that provide certification kits that will provide the hardware you want at a fair price and you don't have to worry about being scammed...

    terminating fiber

They aren't blowing you off OP. This really is the type of job that you want to subcontract out until you can get properly certified technicians on your team along with the equipment. Also, while you can get a mechanical connection, you really want to go fusion spliced. Less noise, far more...

    Nergasm

CDP is a very handy protocol. I use it multiple times a day. I also don't have a problem with VTP. It can make VLAN changes so much quicker and easier. I have never had a problem with it, because if your network is secured properly and if switches get added per a written policy, then it...

Had to replace a downed switch on Christmas Eve

Was this question aimed at me? </me checks original post> Nope no mention of redundancy. Actually, it is a redundant stack, but not fully redundant. Most of the VMs running on that stack of switches can switch to another stack in the other building, but there are a couple that cannot for...

Had to replace a downed switch on Christmas Eve

One of the Cisco 3750's in our Enterprise stack died last night and I am the only one on call this week, requiring me to drive back in and replace it. I hate that damned stack - seriously needs to be upgraded. They are the old 1.5u models with little ram. Anybody else have a holiday emergency?

How do I rename a dir full of files with powershell?

Okay, tried both of these. I'm a noob to the Powershell so I failed at running the script. It appeared to take the function but when I tried to call it Powershell reported the function didn't exist. I'm sure it is something I am doing. The rename command doesn't support the -literalpath...

Looking to build CCNA/CCNP Lab at home, will these work?

I think the 3512 and 3524 are 3500XLs? If so, avoid them at all costs. They aren't much better than a dumb switch. The 2960G is a very viable production switch and the 2950 is capable as well, despite being EOL.

How do I rename a dir full of files with powershell?

Windows 7 Powershell. I have a dir of files that look like this: [DBNL]Dragonball_Z_-_001_-_The_new_Threat_[DR][x264][F26CC67E] I want to make them look like this: Dragonball_Z_-_001_-_The_new_Threat_[DR][x264][F26CC67E] I want to do more to their names than that, but if I can...

    Management VLAN on Cisco Devices

BlueLineSwinger has it right. In fact, your switches, by default, all have an SVI for VLAN 1. You can use that VLAN or, to follow best practices, shut it down and create your own.

    Network pics thread

Yep. We are working on getting the power right for the other 7K. They are going into two different buildings for full redundancy and the other building is a bit strapped for power. It won't be an issue after the existing 6509's are taken down but for awhile they will be running side by side...

MSU Bozeman. They are a little out of my budget. We are putting together a list of 2960x switches to upgrade the access layer as well. Currently that list is around $100,000. Money, money, money makes the world go round and the bits fly at incredible speeds.

Linux and MacBook wireless issues on enterprise network?

Nobody really has a clue as to the cause, that is still being investigated. I did confirm that it is an Apple issue by running a Microsoft Dell and an Apple Pro next to each other while roaming and watching the Apple struggle while the Dell worked nearly flawlessly, with only a dropped packet...

Linux and MacBook wireless issues on enterprise network?

I'm not. I am maintaining the network and don't personally have a Linux laptop with the issue. The problem is mostly with the Apple devices. There are a few people on here that have experience maintaining enterprise class networks so I was hoping someone might have seen this issue. From...

Linux and MacBook wireless issues on enterprise network?

Accessing two local networks through one switch

There is a lot wrong with this statement, but in reference to the OP's question, no routing statements are required. The routes to the two subnets are local to the layer 3 switch. Just enable ip routing, create the vlan interfaces, change the VLAN on the interface the network is connected to...

Accessing two local networks through one switch

You need to create the VLANs (or just VLAN 3 and use the default 1 as well). You also need to create a VLAN interface for each of those VLANs and give it an IP address in the appropriate subnet. Lastly, you need to enable IP routing. Also, the IP you gave each of the interfaces will...

    calling any Visual basic guru's

Okay, sounds good, but how do I do that? I can grasp the theories easily enough, but I don't know the command language. Can I reference the layer name directly? The current script that I am using looks like it searches through the layers until a matching name is found.
