Just a heads up really, in case someone Google's this
I have an Asus X202e Vivobook, its great, but overheats and CPU throttles like a motherfucker. There is no way to control the fans, speedfan and every other fan control software I used couldn't control the fan speed, so the laptop would...
I bought a cheap $60 replacement motherboard for the Q6600. I will use that for now, and when I upgrade I will demote the Q6600 to file server duty and put the current server to rest (S754 Sempron...eww)
I talked to a buddy of mine who works at intel, and he says Ivy Bridge will OC like a boss.
I have a Socket775 Q6600 and a P35 based motherboard. It has served me well these last 3 years or so. It was starting to get long in the tooth, but I wanted to wait till the next round from Intel before I upgraded, supposedly around April.
In order to try and get a bit more performance out...
After an afternoon of failures I have worked out how to flip the Removable Media Bit (RMB) on usb drives and SDHC cards under a 64 bit install of windows 7.
This is based off the Hitatchi Microdrive trick, but I found a 64 bit compiled version of the driver on some german site. I did not make...
I tried playing BF3 this morning
1280x720
Ultra settings, full AA/AF
min FPS: 60
maxing out around 120 at times.
something is up with Skyrim or drivers.
I just bought a new HD6870 to play skyrim, From benchmarks I have seen a lesser 6850 should be able to run skyrim at
Ultra 1280x768 8xAA 16xAF FXAA between 50-60FPS
I'm running fewer pixels at 1280x720
but i am getting 25fps, max and often dropping to 15fps
I''m running the newest AMD...
I use a 720P projector, max resolution is 1280x720
the low resolution has helped keep my 8800gt serving me for an extended time, but with BF3 and Skyrim i think i need a boost.
What card is going to let me turn everything to max, but still give me the best bang for the buck? under $300...

Here is my dilemma, I have my main gaming PC hooked up to a LCD projector in my Home Theater. my gf likes to watch shows and surf the internet on the projection screen and with the Home Theater speakers.
When she is watching something I don't like, say Americas Next Top Model. I would like...
Like i said it was a different machine so i didnt expect the hardware drivers to port over cleanly, but basically all the software is useless, i have been reinstalling all the programs i use, even basic stuff like IE doesnt work. i might try and do another restore tomorrow, from a slightly older...
My laptop just died. Luckily I have backups on my whs I bought a replacement (not the same model) and did a restore from backup.
It sorta restored, my files are there but all the programs are corrupted. No firefox or office not even IE works. I expected to need new drivers for the hardware...
I was hoping to stay away from the whole reciever/amp thing. This is in the bedroom so there is a very high Wife Approval Factor to contend with.
I am looking for small speakers, and small controller, the only input I am dealing with is from the WDTV so a whole receiver seems overkill with...
I have a WD TV Live set up in my bedroom. I would like to set up some small 5.1 speakers. however, the speakers need to have a digital in (either HDMI or Toslink) as these are the only 5.1 outputs from the WD TV. I would only like to pay $200-ish. Is there no decent affordable alternative to...
I have a homebrew WHS, I have 2x500GB drives and 2x320GB drives. My drive pool is now full and I want to replace the 320GB drives with larger 1+ TB drives. Problem is, I only have 4 sata headers, they are all full. How does WHS handle this? Can I pull one drive and install the new one and will...
after several hours i think i got it worked out, (would have been sooner but Norton AV is a POS )
each router has its own ISP network connection, they are networked together via Wireless Distribution System (WDS) each router specifies its own range of DHCP addresses, when a computer is...
I am trying to set up a backup solution in my office. Problem is I have two offices in one building but on opposite sides of the building (within wifi range) for whatever reason, one half of the building has one ISP (shaw cable) and the other half of the building has a different ISP (Telus DSL)...
I am a long time Ratpadz owner, I have had them for years, going back to the original, the GS and the newer XT's. I have converted everyone in my office to use Ratpadz, as well as most of my friends and family.
I honestly think the Ratpad is the best mousepad around. But almost no one...
Acer Aspire EasyStore H340 Windows Home Server
I have 4 office workstations to backup, about 1TB of data Max.
I would like to get the EasyStore H340 + 2 internal 1TB drives for the drive pool and folder duplication. As well as a third 1TB drive in a eSata enclosure to take off site.
The 4...
what if I got one of these things, in addition to the WHS and just took that drive home at the end of the day?
So I would have say 2x500gb in the WHS doing the backup/folder duplication thing. and then a separate duplicate of the WHS on a removable 1TB drive.
I used to do it with tapes back in the day. One tape always at home, one tape always at work. We would run a backup once a week and swap the tapes. I suppose you could do the same thing with a RAID1.
So I am building a WHS for my small business backup. I have 4 workstations that I want backed up. We currently have one machine that acts as a workstation/server of sorts. It hosts a lot of shared documents that the other workstations access via file sharing.
My question is, should each...
I run a small business and have a few computers I am planning to backup on a WHS box.
The WHS will provide a backup, but will not provide protection in event of flood/fire/theft.
For that I really need an off-site backup, I have been taking home a monthly backup on DVD.
Since WHS...
