AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Um... I tried all 3 modes but didn't really see any difference with regards to flicker in Windows. I've left it on mode 0 for a good while now and pretty much got used to the flicker. Might give mode 2 another shot...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

R-100, G-94, B-85 Mine's from the first batch sold in Eastern Europe. Hmmm interesting. I'm using DisplayPort with the desktop PC, but expecting a docking station for the work laptop to be delivered in a couple of days, will be connecting that through an HDMI input, hope it will run at 85Hz...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Mine needed considerable adjustments to RGB controls, but once set the delta-e measured by DisplayCal with an i1D3 meter was 0.1-0.2 for the whitepoint.

Hmmm I don't use it for films. Also stopped using the PC with MadVR a while ago, after getting an Nvidia Shield. Your experience makes sense though... MadVR will be using the video card's HDR API, same as games that have HDR support do. What do card do you have, Nvidia (as I do) or AMD? If...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Yes, but only when turning on in-game HDR. You don't get the crushed blacks with Windows HDR turned on and games run in SDR.

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

I thought G-sync Compatible only went down to something like 40-45-50Hz whereas Ultimate has a much lower floor? Not that I would play anything that dips below 45, just sayin'... :)

DisplayCal with an i1D3 meter. Thanks for the info on the script, I'll give it a go, have a spare button on my mouse to assign it to :)

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Oh and the crushed blacks with in-game HDR thingy, please... Mystique has already provided a comprehensive answer, I'll just add that the curve isn't all that pronounced (my AW replaces a Samsung CF791 which had a stronger curve). Don't worry about it, it will feel "natural" after a few...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Dunno about the GN but the WN's build quality left much to be desired compared to the AW. As for the colours... Different picture modes, maybe? Once calibrated they should be more or less equal since the panels are the same.

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Thanks for taking the time to check! SotTR - The thing is, shadow detail and HDR across the range looks excellent to my eyes on an OLED TV, no need to mess around with any settings on the TV, all I did was set the HDR brightness so that there was still detail left in the associated menu test...

Would you mind testing in-game HDR as well, on the LG? This, assuming your AW also has black crush like mine (RTX3080 with latest drivers, RGB 10bit at 120Hz)... The crush is immediately noticeable in the first scene of the benchmark for Shadow of the Tomb Raider or at the start of the tutorial...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Hmm... I wonder if this is affecting only the AW or other displays too, like the LGs with the same panel. I didn't think to check the WN95C when I had it :(

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Yes. I had a Spyder5 before the i1D3, it was absolutely fine for monitor calibration. The calibration software (whatever ships with the meter or DisplayCal which I prefer, it's free) will create and install an ICC profile that will be used in SDR by certain applications like photo editing...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Thanks for that. Cool comparison in the original post, could be an eye-opener for those who don't mind oversaturation without a reference point :) Yeah, I recall reading something somewhere about the lack of an SRGB mode maaaybe having something to do with the G-Sync Ultimate certification...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

We can only hope... for both the flickering and an SRGB mode. But are Dell known for releasing firmware updates? It's been a while since I've had one.

Now that I think about it, the two windows in my screenshot may have been overlapping at or very close to where two dimming zones meet...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

If you have access to a meter, it might make sense to calibrate your display, then you could use SDR as usual? Just a thought... As for the flickering - see the attached screenshot. It's a Firefox window over a Notepad++ one; they're positioned in the upper right side of the screen but I don't...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Yeah it's a Windows bug/flakey functionality. I once managed (accidentally) to put the Dell in HDR mode, start RDR2 and leave it running in the background, connected a second non-HDR monitor (the CF791 I replaced with AW), duplicate screens which turned off HDR on the AW, then when I brought...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Ah, so... I'm in Romania. Dell don't do direct sales here, I bought it from a reseller. Standard warranty was indeed 3 years, but during checkout I had the option to get 1 or 2 extra years, went with the latter as the extended warranty cost was about 1% of the standard price. It was a rather...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Sorry for not being clear enough. I was referring to the "Color accuracy mode" setting under Display - Adjust desktop color settings that has been introduced in recent drivers, not the vibrance controls. A couple of folks have mentioned it as the solution for emulating SRGB, and on paper it is...

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

I got the AW as soon as it became available in my country; had it for almost 5 weeks now. A few observations: I can see the flickering in Windows while HDR is active... it's bothersome enough that I decided to keep Windows in SDR, and only activate HDR when playing games (more on that later)...
