Yeah, VRR use was unintentional in my case. But it made the flicker extremely visible and I truly understand now why that can be a real issue in some games. The only thing that works is setting Kodi in windowed fullscreen mode and enabling gsync only for exclusive fullscreen. I tried disabling...

    LG 48CX

Finally got a 3080 and updated the FW if the LG to .11.30 via USB - VRR works fine across the whole range. However - yesterday it was the first time I actually noticed the VRR 120Hz flickering issue. It was more than just annoying scrolling through menus in Kodi, running Kodi in Borderless...

Okay, I finally have a 3080 incoming.. now I only need the OTA fw update for europe..

@Whoever just deleted the gsync-off-no-tearing post: If you turn gsync off and vsync on you'll just have VSync at > 120Hz.

    LG 48CX

I think only in combination with VRR though. If not it would also mean it has to be broken on basically everything that runs on 60Hz, including Netflix, Prime and other apps that don't do a refreshrate switch.. Or it may only be a problem in gamemode.. then you could work around that by using...

According to rumors Xiaomi has a transparent 27" OLED in the works.. lol

    Best Smart TV? (>40")

I would appreciate that. I'm on the latest .25 firmware on the CX that came out a couple of weeks ago. The only option I have on the WebOS UI is DLNA to my networked AVR or a USB device plugged into the TV. While I use Emby for my media library I'd welcome direct access to my file system for...

    Best Smart TV? (>40")

I'm not saying WebOS is horrible. I'm saying it's the worst of all options. For me personally it's unusable because I have my SAT tuners go into my server in the basement and stream it around the house using tvheadend. Well.. there is no tvheadend client app for WebOS and there is no Kodi for...

Large 4k monitor vs the Ultra wides

I wouldn't buy in on both the Acer and Asus 43"ers. Too expensive for what they do. If you go big and go 16:9 I'd simply go for an LG CX right now - or maybe another 4X" 4k TV with HDMI 2.1 VRR and HDR if there comes along any competition for LG. Both the Acer and Asus as well as the Alienware...

    Best Smart TV? (>40")

Samsung sticks to Tizen because they use it across their entire ecosystem on their propietery processors. From TVs over Smartwatches to IoT stuff. They try to be an Asian Apple clone. WebOS though.. just plain bad imho. Kudos to Sony, Philips, Nvidia and co who stick to AndroidTV and make it an...

    LG 48CX

Yeah, I know that feeling. "I'm gonna wait, I'm gonna wait.." Next thing I remember was the checkout dialog 😂 I don't regret my descicion coming from a 43" 4k60 VA monitor. The LG CX is just phantastic and we're nitpicking at a very high level here.

    Best Smart TV? (>40")

Imho nothing beats Android TV. Both Tizen and WebOS are unusable for me. Missing apps and features left and right so I'll end up getting another Shield or Xiaomi box..

Large 4k monitor vs the Ultra wides

I personally prefer 16:9 at 40" or larger. Had a 43" Momentum for 2 years and now moved on to a 55" LG CX. Imho the 48 CX would have been perfect, but the 55" was 400 EUR cheaper so I went with that and I won't look back for a long time with that baby.

    LG 48CX

I think nVidia only introduced VRR/G-Sync compatible over HDMI on the 2xxx series. I know I got an overpriced 2070S opposed to a 1080Ti because of some sort of G-Sync compatibility concerns.
  15. S

    LG 48CX

Yeah, but still - what's the alternative? 120 zone FALD with generally worse blacks than even the "raised blacks" on the CX, halos, no VRR and/or no 120Hz support at all? Right now it's imho either: A) turn off VRR B) run at 60Hz VRR C) live with raised blacks D) get a 4k€ Alienware OLED that...

It should be 7ms. 12ms VRR at 4k120 probably were measured in windowed mode with V-Sync on or something.

Can you set peak brightness in game mode?
  18. S

    LG 48CX

Do you guys really notice a difference? I've seen it maybe once or twice kick in on extremely bright scenes, but it's by far not to an extend that would ever bother me. (talking SDR gaming content, I'm waiting on availability on a next-gen GPU for modern AAA titles).
  19. S

    LG 48CX

Yeah, not with LG though as they generally provide cheaper TVs for that market that are facelifted in some form. For desktop and gaming usage I couldn't care less about having one less tuner if it saves me 500 EUR.. lol

    LG 48CX

CX<regioncode>LA Region code: 9... mostly sold in western europe 6... UK (I think) 3... eastern europe (and it also only has a single tuner vs dual tuner on the other models). I got a 55CX3LA from hungary for about 1200 shipped. But I also think eastern europe only gets limited stock of the...

    LG 48CX

This is exactly what was going through my head. They've lost me on false promises and under delivering plasmas about 10 years (or longer?) ago and they will lose me again as a customer if they don't get behind it. I would have gone for something else - if anything at all would have come close...

    LG 48CX

Because I mainly bought it for the OLED, HDR and 55" part. G-Sync works fine up to 100Hz it seems which - right now - is enough for me as I can't push AAA titles beyond 120Hz anyways. And eve then 4:2:0 120Hz would be better than what I currently get on my 2070 Super.. The OLED for me is just...

I'm wondering if there may be more glitches with RGB Full vs RGB Limited other than VRR?
  25. S

    LG 48CX

How in the world DIDN'T they expect a massive interest for gaming? They are the only sub 50" OLED with 120Hz and VRR available and even marketed it as such?! They're basically the only ones officially implementing HDMI 2.1 with all marquee features relevant to gaming, lol..

    LG 48CX

Nah you don't neccesarily.. I'm at a little over 2' (70cm) from a 55" for desktop use and about 3' to 4' (90-120cm) for relaxed (gamepad) gaming (leaning back in my office chair and putting my feet on the table). Playing FPS shooters though is very borderline at 2'.. The 48CX surely is the...

    LG 48CX

Are you constantly on that 118fps cap framerate wise? I'd suspect gsync not working at all, just a tear- and stutterfree experience due to the high fps and refresh rate..

    LG 48CX

That 5.5Hz bug was exactly what I was able to force upon my 2070S setup too. I just can't replicate it anymore, but I think it was a weird combination if Alt+Tab out of the game, disable G-Sync jump back in and play around with V-Sync settings ingame. Maybe it also was LFC kicking in...

https://www.audioholics.com/news/bug-in-hdmi-2.1-chipsets Not directly LG CX, but that sounds too familiar... Let's hope this isn't the same buggy HDMI 2.1 chipset in our TVs.. //Edit: according to heise.de this isn't even FW fixable...

    40" 5120x2160 LG panel in Q1 2021

What's up with all that 8k nonsense?! Unless I'm sitting 1m from a 70+" panel where is the benefit? Especially at 32". I already had to turn up font scaling to 125% on my 43" 4k monitor and it was sharp as feck. At my usual relaxed gaming distance (about 90cm) I couldn't even tell 4k and 1440p...

    LG 48CX

Again, this also happens on a 2070Super for me on .20 and .25FW if I mess with VSync on/off after starting a full screen game. It looks like it switches to Half-VSync and duplicates frames like crazy. Once I toggle vsync back on it usually goes back to normal after a few seconds. This starts...

    LG 48CX

Imho the last 2 comments nailed it. Professional Gamers playing for prize money in competetive shooters is the group that actually benefits from those extreme high refresh rate monitors. For casual gaming and heck, even competitive racing it's completely irrelevant. I was competitively into...

    LG 48CX

You need to test that with a game that can not deliver constant 100+ fps. *constant* limited fps will almost never induce stutter or tearing. Even with g-sync and/or vsync off.
  36. S

    LG 48CX

That's what worries me. If it was straight up broken LG/nvidia/MS would have to react. But that half broken state could easily be dismissed as "good enough, not our problem anymore".
  37. S

    LG 48CX

Do you constantly hit that locked framerate? Because then it's not G-Sync working, but just no stuttering/tearing due to a stable framerate..

    LG 48CX

I also see the 5.5Hz bug on the VRR hidden osd, spontaniously jumping up and down when I get into the mentioned situations on my 2070S.. I'm starting to get a bit scared that this either isn't fixable or won't get fixed by MS/nvidia/LG (whoever is the culprit). I've got about a week to return...

Powercycle the TV and disabling G-Sync, apply, reenable G-Sync. I have the same (or at least a similar) issue with my 2070S on HDMI 2.0 on both the .20 and .25 firmwares and also had similar issues on my old Momentum 43" FreeSync. I think that weird stuff is either caused by Windows 10 or the...

    Triple monitor sim options

Don't go for anything below triple 32" (if it were me not even below 40") for racing sims. Anything else is like looking out of a tank.. In reality though you should get a HP Reverb G2, Index or Pimax 8kx and never look back. VR basically feels like it was invented for racing and flight sims.
