How could he know that his issues are fixed completely? Sometimes it takes
weeks or months before the issue discussed in this thread shows up again.
The XMP issue most likely is unrelated.

I'd probably have a closer look at Asus, ASRock and MSI.
I have seen reports about revision 1.2 having issues, too and people who bought certified DP cables
reported that the issue re-appeared, in this very thread.
Technically it does make sense for Gigabyte to not care, too because after all they got your money
already and any repair or replacement...
Please report it to Gigabyte, include links to this forum and maybe the various threads on the Gigabyte US forum. We're are at a point where nearly everything has been tried
and it's now their job to find out what the underlying issue is.
Can you tell us if the problem happened more frequently over time?
I'm aware that it's quite sporadic so pure chance might play a role but if it increases in frequency for enough people
we might get an idea if it's just a software issue or an electrical defect.

Personally I don't think it's the Display port cable (but as said above, I switched mine to a certified one, just on the off chance that it is indeed the culprit) simply because I would expect other issues to appear before, like a flickering/flashing screen, damaged GPU, etc...

Actually yes. But I've switched the cable to a certified Displayport cable yesterday when I read that some people
suspect this might be an issue. The cable I used before and indeed on my old mainboard, too was the one
that came with the monitor.

I just wanted to post that I had the same issue with an X470 Gaming 7 Wifi. It "died" two times on me.
What worries me especially is that it seems that this issue seems to occur more and more often, at least
