2600 and a b450 that supports Ryzen 3000 series. Update the Bios so you're ready to pop in a 3600 or 3700x should you feel the need to. Then keep that combo if you're happy with it or sell the 2600 and put the money towards 3600/3700x

Sapphire v56 pulse is samsung ram, undervolt and hbm oc as N4CR says. Its what i bought with a similar dilemma as yours, 1440p and 300 quid tops Mine was £278 in UK but they're around 250 now, so close to $300 Not sure if US pricing is as good though.

2070 performance at 2060 price makes perfect sense to me, as does 2060 performance at 1660 price and so on down the stack.

Vega 56 for me, very close to 2060 in performance using Wattman to tweak and a Freesync monitor. Unless you see a good deal on a 2060 and supported Freesync monitor, as nVidia does certify some these days.

Then maybe MSi should have qualified their stance on this on Ryzen release, not kept quiet and let motherboards be sold under false pretences.

Well, for me it was a major factor in buying my B350 Pro Carbon. AMD promised socket compatibility so I bought what I considered to be a quality board to last me. If this is true, it will be the last MSi board i ever buy.

I know it's only a B350 board but my MSi Gaming Pro Carbon has been solid since I did the first Bios update on it, with 3200 and that's the standard Corsair Vengeance LPX stuff. Pretty sure the B450 is also really good but I'm only running a R1600 on it.

Now that, if this rumour is accurate, there's a yawning chasm between the new price of the RX590 and Vega56, how much could AMD realistically drop the price of Vega and still make a small profit, or at least break even?

Sapphire Vega56 pulse is £280 on Overclockers UK and has been before the AMD news of a price drop. Cheapest 1660ti is £260 Would rather get the Vega and undervolt.

1080ti or nothing surely? 2070 isn't that much faster than a Vega56 is it? 10%? 15 maybe?

3 months takes you to May, I would suggest waiting for your Cpu/Motherboard and GPU picks until then. Very close to Zen2 release . 1080ti won't be available then of course but you may find better prices on 2080's by then and a clearer idea of Navi capabilities.

I'm not justifying it, just noting it. I wonder, if it was China stealing the IP of Russia, would the reaction be as supportive of the Russians? I would like to think so because that would mean the crime is the problem, not which country is losing out.

Presumably you have made nVidia aware of your results, very interested to hear what they say and the spin they may put on it. Great article btw, every other site i've read manages much better results, close to the nVidia party line. Wonder why that is? Yours is the most honest and trustworthy...

It's a foreign concept to me that you even have to make that choice. Thank goodness for the NHS! If all there is in the $350 price area is a 2060 then i'll have a Vega 56 instead please.

That's the 4th time you've said exactly the same thing, once here and 3x in the keynote thread. The 2060 has only a bit better performance than a 1070, except 2.5 years later at a similar price. If AMD can release an 8gb version at slightly lower clocks, would be interesting.

It's a 2060. Should be around 250 surely. Performance should go up a level with the price remaining similar to the outgoing card. I'm sure that's how it used to work.

Also would like to see playable settings with DXR enabled for all 3 cards. Maybe the 2070 would become playable with High BFV settings instead of Ultra? Maybe you could run the 2080 at High/Medium at 1440p? It's a lot of work for you though and you should have some holiday time. :)

Absolutely, and I forgot to mention the massive improvement in multiplayer. I used to only play on 32 player servers in bf1 because the poor old phenom couldn't cope, GTA was also painful at times. I went to a Ryzen 1600 on a Gaming Pro Carbon B350 and 16gb of 3200 ram and I would advise...

Quite possibly, I know from my own experience of going from a Phenom x4 965 to a Ryzen 1600 it felt like I'd had a video card upgrade as well even though I've kept the same 280x as before. Given the card a new lease of life it has.

Great review and food for thought for me, hanging on to my 280x as I am. I wonder what kind of performance you would get if you could push that core to close to 1060 levels. Now I'm torn between this 590 and stumping up a bit more for a Vega 56. I would go up to £350 quid at xmas I think...

Of course it will be a good card, it will also be at nonsense prices, 350 - 400? The review itself is very good and wouldn't disagree with the gold award for the performance, only for the pricing. If only AMD can do something with Vega and Polaris and soon, GDDR6 on those and they would fly...
