Hey guys, it has been a while! This case is now called It's now called A4-H20 and it can be already pre-ordered!
Props to dondan for this beautiful case! Glad to have given my 0.000001% contribuite on the design of this beauty with the side I/O idea haha
Newegg...
dondan I was very active on this thread (since 2017), I tried to give as many ideas as possible, spent time making illustrations, simple animations etc. but as of now I'm not interested in the case anymore because it has turned into a very different beast.
Please don't get me wrong, it's...
Flowmotion to be fair your original comment was about "mainstream" cards being triple slot, since when the RTX 2080 is considered mainstream? Anyhow, as I've told you earlier the Founder Edition cards are factory overclocked, if you check the benchmarks you will see that they perform similarly...
dondan It's a cool idea but as I've said, it's probably not for me. Pretty sure others may find it quite interesting.
Flowmotion RTX Founder Edition cards are factory overclocked they perform pretty nicely. Also, buying a 3 slot "mainstream" gpu is kinda weird I must say.
dondan I have to say that I'm not super happy to see the case getting bigger and bigger (it's getting a little too similar to the M1), at this point you might also want to support 3.5" drives (just kidding). I'm still trying to figure out what's the point of a 3-slot card in an SFF case...
dondan finally, nice to see you here again! Anyhow what happened to Side I/O? Was it completely scrapped?
In this top I/O variant is it possible to align the stuff so it can match the position of the vent holes? The fact that things aren't perfectly aligned bugs me a little bit but that's my...
I'd be happy with either layout.
kingtron you have a point, but if you are using an AIO Cooler, the case can still be used horizontally I guess. It's definitely an issue for those who plan to cool the CPU with air.
Anyhow how many will use the case in horizontal position? 2-3% maybe? I have no...
It's an interesting layout but I have to say that there are some things that does not convince me about this approach.
Why are you making this case so niche?
How effective can Indirect cooling be if the fans are (potentially) chocked?
How many people do water cool their GPU? Air cooled cards...
Hmm, I don't know, the Scyscraper-Layout looks interesting but I'm a bit concerned about cables, temps, and I/O position.
I'll wait for some realistic renders (if possible).
dondan what if you remove the Type-A port and keep the Type-C + audio jacks?
(I own a Macbook Pro so I'm used to having type-C ports only lol)
Maybe a poll could help you with the decision.
Long time no see dondan , I hope things are going well with your little girl. :)
As for your questions...
1) I think I will only use a 240mm AIO so I'm fine with dropping the support for 2 x 120mm AIOs - Question is, how many of us are planning to use 2 x 120mm AIO?
2) It's a painful one, I...
You don't "have to" intake from the top, it's optional, it depends on fan orientation.
Just imagine the setup below but with the fans pushing the air upwards.
Dude, we are talking about options, as long as it's optional I wouldn't call it pointless.
There are several tests that clearly show the benefit of a push/pull config. Will it work on this case? I don't know, that's why I said it should be tested at least.
I 'm pretty sure nobody asked Dan to...
Definitely needs to be tested. The smaller heat-sink surface area might affect cooling but a Push/Pull config (w/ 15mm fans) seems totally doable.
Hopefully it's not going to be loud.
A4: simple and minimal, nothing too fancy and that's a good thing.
InWin: not too sure if this will look good in real life but the nice thing about this style is that you may slide in a dust-filter. (See pic below)
NZXT: squared more stable version of A4 maybe? I honestly don't love it lol...
They are similar but there are some structural differences, on the type 2 variant, the feet have a sort of "U" shape.
It is possible to implement this style but it may require special tooling that will surely increase production costs.
I think it looks just ok, problem is that it looks expensive to manufacture (due to the bending process).
Current Angled style and A4 feet look simple and clean. I think I prefer what has already been done by Dan.
IF dondan is going to keep the side I/O I don't think it is going to be that risky. As I said (on most scenarios) the case is not that close to the user.
Daily suggestion - Feet variants:
My humble opinion is that the original angled feet look the best, but if that doesn't work I'll still...
dondan hmm at this point, I think Case Feet are no.1 priority. I like the A4 ones, but I will still think about an alternative solution. Hopefully, I end up with a suggestion or something.
If I'm correct, the A4 feet are only 5mm, with the C4 there's the chance to go up to 10mm.
Side I/O: unfortunately, I experienced it before. The risk of breaking stuff plugged in is quite a common thing on bigger form factor cases, especially when the case is sitting under the desk (and has front I/O). With that said I'm not too sure that it's that dangerous on an SFF case since the...
While I can't disagree with you on most points, I think we have to try to be patient. He is doing all the work by himself, I don't think he is happy to scrap the original design, only he knows how many hours he spent making the original CAD drawings.
These are the actual challenges afaik:
1)...
Well, it's in my best interest to see best possible C4-SFX.
The Raijintek Metis looks interesting and quite spacious. I don't know how the 180° flip will function, it seems like you'll have to disassemble the whole case.
In that case, it may be even possible to consider flat packaging (like on...
dondan if you opt for unibody is it possible to make it a bit less curvy? Also, I'd like to maintain some of the original features.
In any case, I think the C3 Plus, VR2, and U4, look better than the UMX4 (all made by Jonsbo).
But that is just my personal opinion. :)
What if the padding is directly attached to the frame instead of the outer panels? It should be less of a problem, right?
Alternatively, You can use Foam instead of Rubber.
I used Affinity Designer for the Illustration and Flinto (for Mac) for the animation. ;)
Notional It is not uncommon for "old designs" to come back into fashion. While I agree with you that the current idea is a step back, I'm positive that Dan can make Unibody Design look great even in 2018/2019.
Don't forget what Dan said:
He still has to decide whether or not opting for the...
dondan
At this point, just make it bigger, most will not even notice the increase in size. If a (slightly) bigger case allows better cable management, panel clips (or slide in panels), better radiator support, you should definitely go for it.
As for the scratches issue, can you consider to add...
Hey dondan would be nice if you update this thread as well :)
I totally understand your reasons for ditching the previous design but if you are opting for unibody design you should consider implementing a different look rather than mimicking the one in the A4. It may end up looking similar to...
Yea I have not said that it looks bad, actually on the black variant looks really great, but for the silver one a slightly less tinted glass panel would be even better (imho).
No big deal. We are talking about little details :)
Personally I'm not bothered at all by the tiny gap between the front and the top. Consider that we are looking at a prototype, there's definitely room for improvements.
If the top and bottom didn't take a bit of the sides, the case will look way too boxy (like the Ncases). I'm totally fine with...
