So you have tour 5900X in air and the 3090 WC/120Rad?
How are the cpu temps, noise at load and heat?
What air cooler are you using for the 5900x?
Thanks!
This is exactly what I was speaking about ^
It's not completely impossible....
It can be done with the z270 Strix and Trident RGB setup, but the hoses block a good portion of the RGB lighting.
A 52mm hole saw and 60mm fan grill is all you need to modify the case. This leaves all the other...
I just checked out the x299e-itx.
It has dang riser cards on both sides of the CPU socket! Hopefully it can be used without these if desired. The one in question houses a m.2 and SATA3 connectors.
This positioning may also pose an issue depending on final spec height.
The USB slot can still be used if you heavily modify the cable.
However, the AIO works well with Dan's X99 board because of the ram slot locations.
On z270 boards, it requires the hoses to cross over the ram. If you have high profile ram, it will not work. Also, if you have RGB ram, prepare to...
I'm with you there!
Modular PC's are fast approaching the market.
Once Apple does it, I think we will see a rush to stripped down NUC style PC boxes with eGPU docks.
I can personally tell you being able to take an eGPU from office to home is pretty convenient.
It makes on of sense for...
How are you guys obtaining the fan clips for the Noctua fan and LP53?
I purchased a Noctua Fan / NH-L9i kit to use the Fan and clips on the LP53. However, the fan is screwed into the heatsink and not attached with the needed clips.
Note that the Astek will give owners of the Strix board issues due to the location of the ram. (Side where the hoses will cross over)
If you look at Dan's X99 board, the ram is located at the bottom of the board.
I personally had issues because the hoses were not long enough to make the loop...
I reapplied the Liquid Thermal Ultra & the Thermal Grizzly but temps are still out of control. 3:40 into Aida 64 it his the thermal limits. This is with the sides of the case off. The Noctua fan is only spinning at 2000rpm max?. I also have it set with the sicker facing the LP53.
I have no idea...
I put it on both sides. Honestly, I think it's because it only applied a thin layer on each (CPU and Top IHS)
I used loctite dots to keep the IHS in place and held it in place in the Rocket 88 deliding/relidding tool.
That's a relief!
Will tear it all down and reapply the Liquid metal.
I was careful and thin with the application. That was me being overly cautious.
I appreciate the info.
Also, antes to add that my g.skill rgb ram does indeed post and run at 4200mhz. I have updated to the latest bios, so if...
Have it all together now.
Thermals are out of control.. even after delidding.
Perhaps I did not put enough Liquid metal on when I delidded.
AIDA64 fails less than a minute in due to thermal limits. I have the fan at full tilt as well.
Rats!
Anyone with the Strix board know if I can use the back SSD as my boot drive. I want to add another later but don't want to tear it apart later trying to get to the back slot.
Thanks in advance!
Me too!
Delided and waiting to cure!
I don't think this water cooler is going to work.
Please let me know if you or anyone else has ideas/positions for the water cooler they wold like me to try.
Hello,
Here are some photos of the water cooler sitting on to of the Noctua fan.
Im sure it would be better to reverse the seating, fan on top. this is just for measure.
This is my afternoon..
Finally received all the desired parts, plus a water cooler and will be attempting to complete the build today.
DonDan ordered this cooler to see if he can find a mounting point for Case Ver2. I have placed the FE 1080 ti inside and have found that it does indeed sit...
That's really impressive!! I'm surprised at the 5820k results. Make me want to rethink that 8/10 core beast I had in mind.
How's gaming on the Xeon vs the 5820k?
Thanks!
Would love to know how thermals and sound is when under load.
That's a beast for productivity!
Hmmm.. 1 core at 3.6. Wonder how that translates to others 7700ks.
Interesting build you have there to say the least :)
Absolutely correct!
I know it's expensive and probably too hot to work. We shall see...
This coming from a guy that paid through the nose on eBay (me) for this tiny metal box with no PSU
Could have bought several silverstone SG13s for that too :)
HAHAHA!
I walked into the store and grabbed it immediately. It didn't dawn on me that it could possibly be to wide. I have used reference cards the last few years and am completely blown away with the size these things have gotten to be. Just INSANE!
So, as punishment and a treat to the...
It's here!!!
I won't have my case until tomorrow, but this thing is GIGANTIC!!
Seriously doubt it's gonna fit :/
Still have my unopened Founders Edition Ti. I am really hoping this Strix will fit because I want a quieter solution.
MSI is having issues with their firmware locking the fans at...
I wanted to use it 80% Games/HTPC and 20% Photo/Video (Non Professional) level work.
The thought was to build something with grunt for both.
Although, it seems that without overclocking the 5820, I might be wasting cash. Im also not too sure how well this Dynatron T318 will cool a OC 5820k...
I have the fan :)
What made you choose the ASUS board over the Asrock? I like the thunderbolt 3 option on the Asrock but also like the two m.2 slots on the ASUS.
Was there a definitive reason you chose ASUS?
Im on the fence between a 7700K Vs 5820k build. Currently have all the parts in front of for both builds. However, Im still torn and don't want to open the wrong items.
What platform would run the best performance wise without having to babysit the thermals?
I am completely bummed to look at...
