chx's idea did'nt ignore peripheral cooling. Just look at the tower cooler setup people do for their CPU cooling. Beefy CPU tower cooler with 120/140 mm fan(s) blowing air from front to back through the tower heatsink, and along the way it provides sufficient airflow for the VRM heatsink behind...
C7 is forced to be off-center to clear off the inner DIMM slot, forcing C7 to overlapp part of the chipset and the M.2 SSD. Have you confirmed that the C7 mounted onto a CPU on X99E-ITX/ac will clear the top of the chipset heatsink as well as the top of the M.2 SSD/screw?
I believe the center...
I don't think GALAX and Colorful are not affiliated and don't OEM each other. "Galax GeForce GTX 1080 iGame" in that wccftech article probably is a typo and it should be Colorful iGame X-TOP, whereas 1080 HOF is strictly GALAX. Speaking of GALAX there is another non-reference GTX1080 by GALAX...
The riser used the way Findecanor does serve the purpose of allowing the GPU and PSU to not block each other's fan intake, the PSU fan facing left, the GPU fan facing right. Of course you can move the PSU in Necere's render to the top of case to achieve that goal without a riser, but Findecanor...
That's a re-branded E-D5S by the Chinese company Realan:
E-D5S - Mini PC|Barebone|Mini case|Mini-ITX Case|Aluminum Case|ITX Case|HTPC Case|Mainboard|Power Adapter
With a minor change (front I/O location) Sharkoon sells it under the name CA-M:

Sorry I haven't caught up with the thread so I'm going back to refer to Necere's post from a week ago:
There were such cases 10 years ago though it's not so SFF, was quite popular in my country where they were sold:
(the second case is a special edition of the first allowing an ATX/SFX PSU...
Comparing the layout of ATX and mATX X99 boards I see there's larger power regulation section located north of CPU socket on most of the ATX boards vs to the side of DIMM slots on mATX, the latter prohibiting 4 additional DIMM slots. Looking at how ASRock managed to cram everything on their...
Ah, I see.
Hmm. The reason I asked this is because I was thinking the front logo orientation issue could be solved by providing a stand for horizontal placement as well instead of the typical four corner feet with the same aesthetic (a rectangular face right underneath and flush with the...
Looking at Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming ITX/ac I see MegaChips MCDP2800 right behind the top HDMI port, the same DP1.2-to-HDMI2.0a bridge chip that's on Gigabyte Z170X Gaming G1 and ASUS Z170 Deluxe. ASRock's already providing the necessary HDMI firmware update on their site noting that the latest Intel...
I'm looking at the photos and can't figure out precisely which part of the chassis is steel. Are those long narrow strips going from front to back (but not all the way) that the filter sheets are attached onto made of steel and just screwed to the aluminum chassis?
Also, why is the ID plate...
To the best of my knowledge, the distance from the center of the CPU socket to the nearest DIMM socket wall is approx. 41~42mm for X99E-ITX/ac and 44~45mm for EPC612D4I,
so I don't think you can install Cryorig C7, Thermolab LP53, Silverstone AR-05, or Noctua N9i/N9a (or any other heatsinks that...
Well, at least Tom's Hardware did illustrate back in June that Noctua NH-D15 was compatible with X99E-ITX with the Narrow ILM brackets that come with their DX series:
You can also deduce from this and the socket compatibility chart that the same set of brackets works for all of their coolers...
When you published reviews of X99M WS and X99 Micro 2 (which btw were great, thank you for your dedication) I was going to make comments with two suggestions that I ended up not posting (the browser crashed or something iirc and I got lazy rewriting the lost drafts) and one of them was that you...
I'm ignorant and also afraid it's already been answered upthread, but how does (did) then NCASE handle this strict electronic waste rules in Europe and registration in each country as they sell M1 to customers in Europe as well?
Spinpoint M10P 4TB is the same as Spinpoint/Momentus ST4000LM016 based on a review by techradar and according to Machupo it's just under 15mm in thickness. But it's not sold (yet) as an internal drive in a retail or bulk package other than two ebay resellers and is currently only available as...
Here is the cache I archived:

I grabbed some rigid PCIe Gen3.0 x16 2-way and 3-way splitters from IBM servers that someone was parting with several months ago of which I've had no usage, now this and the price of Skylake CPUs being prohibitive are gradually pushing...
Gigabyte Z170N-WIFI (already mentioned upthread with a youtube link)
Gigabyte Z170N-GAMING 5
Pretty similar other than the USB3.1 TypeC, the EPS 8pin, a heatsink w/ a heatpipe, the "Steel Armor" shielded PCIe slot, a fewer caps, and the red and silver against black theme.
I read Necere's comment on the thermal problem exhibited by Node 202 @SPCR, so I assume the top vent in Necere's design will take care of the GPU exhaust well in case of using a GPU with an open air cooler.
Thanks for clarification. I didn't know the aluminum thickness was increased.
Now with my better grasp of size, I see the internal space has height 72 - (2 + 1.5 + foam thickness) * 2, that is, 65 - 2 * (form thickness). That *sort of* clarifies one of my questions, well actually hard to say as...
@esplin2966
Hi, I guess this is my first post in this thread.
Am I understanding the following points correctly? I just went through the entire thread and have a comment/concern to express to you but I want to avoid saying things based on any misunderstanding of the case design.
1) In...
I might prefer a 244mm long low profile GTX970 over a 170mm long standard-height (or oversized-height) GTX970, with two of the former in SLI on an mATX board allowing extra space between the top of the cards and the left-side panel for a 240mm rad+fan that might not fit with the standard-height...
Oh I see, it can be routed cleaner looking if there's space b/w the end of the video card and the front of the chassis, and I guess not many people use a video card that leaves no space there.
Thanks for sharing the story. With a little sacrifice on your side I suppose it was still a win-win...
Can the 24pin cable that come with the 700W Sirfa unit sneak in the narrow space between the mobo and the PSU? I recall a discussion of a 173mm wide mobo barely fitting next to an SFX unit, but when the 24pin conenctor on an ITX board is located along the front edge of the board, routing the...
I wouldn't be so casual in concluding that Sapphire's ITX compact GPUs fit in a 180mm deep double layer aluminum enclosure, when you take their PEG connectors orientation into account (even if you acquire one of those trimmed 6/8pin PCIe cable off ebay):
Sapphire R9 285 2G ITX COMPACT OC...
AFAIK the max CPU cooler height for ISK110 is somewhere between 48 and 50mm. I know someone who replaced the 14mm thick fan of NH-L9i with a 25mm thick fan inside ISK110 and said barely fits thanks to the protorusion over the side mesh. (The same config doesn' fit inside ISK100, whose clearance...
Thanks for the clarification! I'm still perplexed by the weak performance of the Phanteks even after discounting the usage of the slim Scythe fan, but one thing I wanted to say earlier that I forgot to say: your test proves how efficiently the A4-SFX lets the hot air out, resolving the problem...
There must be a good reason you decided to resurrect this thread and with that 700W Dirac comment you made before Computex there's a good reason I should believe so :)... but wondering at the same time why no coverage of Seasonic's showcase at Computex that I've gone through had any hint at this.
Great work, dondan! I really aprreciate the amount of time you must have spent on the tedious cooler installation/uninstallation.
The most surprising thing is PH-TC12LS + a 12mm-thick 100mm fan lost against Janus + a 14mm-thick 100mm fan by 10C and against LP53 + a 14mm-thick 100mm by 14C at...
Lian Li PC-Q20 (W149 x H235 x D205mm, 1 PCI slot) and PC-Q21 (W149 x H257 x D224mm, 2 PCI slots) at COMPUTEX 2015
Finally a 2 slot update of Q02 but the overall size increased by 25%, now bigger than Osmi. Wishing some manufacturer to realize theGryphon's 6.5L case with brushed aluminum.
I see, the reason I was wondering is if you don't mind going with a server board there are some 4 DIMM slot boards by ASRock and Supermicro whose width is 224mm or less that probably fit into Array R2 without needing to mod the rear panel cutouts. Most of those that I had in mind are for Avoton...
Unless you know how the stand supports the case on its bottom panel, some people may prefer to have four feet located at the corners to have less obstructed air intake to the fan of the GPU of his/her choice, larger clearance, or better weight balance (or at least peace of mind by believing so.)
