    42" OLED MASTER THREAD

From recent reports, it seems there is almost no reason to upgrade to C4. All the big improvements happen in 55" and larger models. The brightness increase is not that noticeable, neither is 24hz. Personally I decided to just keep my 48CX, everything is a compromise and there's no clear upgrade...

    42" OLED MASTER THREAD

Apparently you can use https://github.com/Maassoft/ColorControl to enable the full service menu on C3/C4. It just added support for C4 a few days ago (https://github.com/Maassoft/ColorControl/releases/tag/v9.9.0.0). There's a post on avsforum about it...

    42" OLED MASTER THREAD

Same experience for me in the few days I had my 240Hz Alienware. Every game I played was around ~120 FPS (with ultra settings/ray tracing where possible) so I was wondering what the point of downsizing from 120Hz 48" to 240Hz 32" was. I'm guessing this will change though with the 5090.

I agree, I really dislike the ASBL dimming. I've even turned it off on my C1 65" which I use as my main TV/media consumption device - it would trigger while watching movies and TV which was really annoying and noticeable. I read that C3 has an improved algorithm for ASBL. But it's kind of ham...

    LG 48CX

Maybe I'm crazy but I actually like my 48CX as productivity monitor. I use it probably 90% for productivity, 10% for games. I get up really close and use it like two portrait monitors, or center monitor for coding/web browser. What I don't like it for is keyboard & mouse gaming - I have never...

    LG 48CX

Well I gave up and I'm sticking with my 48CX for the time being (bought Alienware, scratches, returned, bought 42C4 but returned because of ABSL dimming can't be disabled, looked at my friends Neo G9 57" but PQ wasn't great). So I bought an ergotron HX and will make a small improvement to my...

    42" OLED MASTER THREAD

Does anyone know if dimming/ABSL issues were fixed in C3/C4? I hear mixed reports that a firmware update mostly fixed it. There is a "workaround" that was posted on youtube, but it doesn't look practical (puts your screen in factory mode permanently, seems like a giant PITA).

    Alienware AW3225QF 32" 4K 240 Hz OLED

Just got mine, manufacturing date Jan though so it doesn't have protective film on it - just bubble wrap against the raw screen. Screen is scuffed to hell with micro scratches and a row of micro smudges across the top. All permanent marks. Honestly what is Dell thinking with how they package...

    LG 48CX

Well I pulled the trigger on the Alienware as it's the only reasonably priced 32" 240hz OLED in the UK (930 after corporate discount vs 1300+ for everything else!). Let's see how the adjustment from 48"->32" goes :D. Planning to put the 48CX to the side on a separate desk purely for controller...

    LG 48CX

Planning to keep the CX, just want a smaller monitor primarily for productivity and FPS games. I think the 480Hz on the new LG 32" oled will also be pretty amazing for motion clarity on older games and I'm eager to try it out. Interesting about the BFI on CX - I never tried it much though, as...

    LG 48CX

Sorry should have specified I'm in the UK :). Where all the 240hz OLEDs are £1400 for some reason (except the Alienware, but I don't want a curved screen). 42" C3 is 800-900 here, and cheaper on sale which happens fairly often (700 or less).

    LG 48CX

Still using my 48CX daily with 0 burn in, this thing is amazing. I'm thinking of buying one of the new 240hz OLED gaming monitors though. I would like to downsize, the 48" remains at the edge of "slightly too large" for me and I'm doing more productivity work than gaming these days. But I wonder...
  14. H

    LG 48CX

Yup I'm just going to wait until we get something significantly better at 42". Not worth the side grade right now. Still have 0 burn in and only like 3-4 dead pixels on the edges at about 6.5k hours so far.

    LG 48CX

Yeah that’s why I keep thinking 42” will feel like a downgrade, for immersive gaming at least. Been playing cyberpunk with a 4090 on it at max ray tracing settings and it’s glorious. It really is a great size for gaming and watching movies, at about 1m away. It’s my fave monitor of all time and...

    42" OLED MASTER THREAD

Just ordered one of these, and wondering if the stock stand will be good enough. My only concern is it will be sitting pretty low - top of the panel will be slightly above eye level for me. Anyone w/ the stock stand happy with how low it sits? I know ergonomics theory is to have the top of a...

    LG 48CX

Yeah I think you're right. Still, the prices this black friday are so good (700 right now in the UK). I still find the 48 slightly too big occasionally (like if I have to do a work call on Zoom and need to fullscreen share), but the immersion is great at around ~1m away. edit: I couldn't help...

    LG 48CX

I use Ecomoist cleaner (available in the UK, there is probably an NA equivalent) - spray it on the cloth then wipe. Alternatively, if you want to be really careful, damp a cloth in distilled water (tap water will have minerals and will streak, I wouldn't use especially if you have hard water)...

    LG 48CX

Decided to keep my 48CX and buy the new zowie 25" XL2566K instead for FPS. I need to find a monitor arm though that can reach ~70-80cm so I can put it in front of my CX and then move it out of the way when not using it. Anyone have suggestions?

    LG 48CX

Did anyone swap to the 42C2 yet? Thinking about it as the black friday prices are looking really good. Probably will be cheaper yet though when the C3 comes out next year. I'm so used to the 48 at this point though I wonder if I'll regret downsizing.

What are you guys using for a router that you love?

Moved house and decided to try 3x Eero Pro 6, because wiring it is going to be a massive pain and apparently the new wifi 6 tech is really good for backhaul. Have to say it has exceeded expectations. I did some extensive testing and latency only suffers about 4-6ms extra with very low jitter...

    LG 48CX

I tried BFI on my CX when I first got it. The main drawback is it makes the screen much darker. I think it also adds a frame of input delay. YMMV but I gave up on it. According to https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6310&sid=1e3184c21ca26146626eb32e1862278f&start=50, C1 improved...

    LG 48CX

Boom, the 42 C2 is out now. For higher msrp than I grabbed a 65C1 last week! I’m still happy with my 48CX but when these drop to 800-900 in a year I’ll probably grab one.

    LG 48CX

People think the text looks bad on this screen? I must be missing something. I find text is way easier to view over longer periods w/ an oled than my prior IPS and VA screens. In fact that's half the reason I got an OLED, I find it's much easier on my eyes for long viewing periods. Working on it...

    LG 48CX

42" seems like the perfect size to me. While I love my 48CX, I do struggle with it in FPS mouse+keyboard games. My desk, deepest I could get, is 80cm/31.5". I have no issue with text or anything at that distance and as a productivity monitor it is amazing. Anything non keyboard/mouse I push my...

    LG 48CX

I bought an RX 6900XT because I was getting sick of nvidia driver issues on Linux. Only to discover the HDMI 2.1 spec doesn't allow open source drivers (amd on linux) to implement it. So imagine my surprise when I can only get 4:2:0 at 120hz. So, so dumb. Why is this a thing.
  27. H

    LG 48CX

Yet the nvidia driver still crashes on Linux if your TV is off when it tries to resume the display signal - requiring a hard reboot. Really annoying, lots of threads on the nvidia forums, and yet to be fixed. I have to be really careful and make sure I turn the TV on before moving my mouse or...

I have this really annoying issue with Dolby Vision files on plex / nvidia shield. It plays fine, but the Dolby Vision icon keeps popping up throughout the movie. Any idea how to fix it?
  29. H

    LG 48CX

Indeed I’ll probably do that now that I have a shield. Maybe. I was comparing scenes and just feel it oversharpens a bit much. With subtitles on it creates fringes around the letters too. Disappointing since I know ai/ml based up scaling can be much better. Maybe the shield isn’t powerful...

    LG 48CX

Also I spent some more time with the nvidia shield pro's AI upscaling, and it isn't as good as I thought it was initially. It oversharpens things way too much. Even on the Low setting. I ended up disabling it in favor of just using "enhanced" upscaling. The mpv ML based upscalers are much...

    LG 48CX

TIL the Live+ feature on the LG CX is a glorified screen logger. It captures images from your TV and sends them to remote servers to be matched for ad tracking purposes. Can't believe such a feature exists, wtf. Anyways, make sure you turn it off.
  32. H

    LG 48CX

Ordered a shield off of amazon warehouse, and just got it today. Apart from a busted ethernet cable making me think it was broken, so far so good. The AI upscaling is really great actually. It is very similar to https://github.com/haasn/FSRCNN-TensorFlow, which I was using with mpv before I...

Plex can transcode video/audio independently. It also does on the fly remux if it can. I think usually when people use the term transcode, they tend to mean lossy encoding. Plex always says "transcode" in the server dashboard even if it is doing a lossless remux, which is sort of annoying. I...

    LG 48CX

Yeah I think I'll just use my browser for watch together, no big deal. Not worth 200 just for plex I think. Maybe if I can get a good deal on one. I have a PS5 too but its plex app is spectacularly bad.
  35. H

    LG 48CX

I might buy a shield just so I can get "Watch together" in Plex. It's so annoying the webos Plex doesn't have that feature. How is the shield experience?

    LG 48CX

Glad you figured it out. Yeah windows is really idiotic and disables suspend/sleep if it thinks you have a gaming peripheral like a game pad plugged in. It’s so stupid. I learned the hard way as well as I like to keep my gamepads plugged in.

    LG 48CX

Yeah looks really close to me. You need a deeper desk I think. At minimum, get an after market stand, you should be able to push it towards the end of your desk that way. I have an 80cm deep desk, with an aftermarket stand so it's about 70cm from me and I find this works well for mouse+kb. But...

    LG 48CX

Ah bummer. I think this is not uncommon though. It's just a single pixel I assume? I think sometimes they come back too. So I wouldn't worry about it too much, I'm guessing it's barely noticeable.
