The ASRock's CPU socket is positioned further towards the top edge of the motherboard (about 1 cm if I were to guess). How much room do you have between the C1 and the top flange of the L3?
Filters will impact airflow to some degree. Just try without, and see what happens. The vented side panel is the way to go... if only I had one to give you.
Thanks for the PM Siba. I haven't been getting email notifications on new posts to this thread. As mentioned in the PM, the mounting...
Audio interference could be a possibility. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about it to be of much help. I'd search around and see what you can find. Using shielded wiring couldn't hurt, but I'm not sure if it's necessary.
Hi,
I appreciate your interest, and for subscribing to the mailing list.
I don't have any plans to add front audio jacks to this particular design. You may be able to find a "panel mount" headphone/audio jack to add to the case. You could certainly mod the case, and mount something at the...
I'd be interested to see what one (or two) 80 mm case fans would do to remove built up heat. Not sure if you can wedge some in there or not? They may remove built up heat, but that's all though. Also, I wonder if your vent screen has any significant effect on ventilation?
Very cool! :)
Are you going to remove the radius corners on the wrap around side panel corners? Looks like they weren't there on the original concept renderings.
I've added support for the HDPLEX 250W with minimal changes, but I can't see adding holes without a specific purpose. The bracket has no clearance behind it and the front of the case, so holes by themselves wont do much good. I'm using countersunk holes. If someone wanted to modify the...
Not a bad idea, but I'm not aware of any alternatives to the PicoPSU that are as good as the HDPLEX 160W (or larger 250W)?
Price increase would be less than $10 I would guess, but I'm already counting on having to produce more parts to offset all the price increases I'm likely to encounter.
I...
Here's an image of a 2.5 inch drive bracket and HDPLEX 160W bracket all-in-one I've been considering. Can be rotated 180 degrees, and also allows the HDPLEX 160W to be mounted in four positions.
Pros:
- Simple, one piece design makes it easier to include by default.
- Brings back the...
Which PSU and bricks have you used again?
Looks like the EPP-300 could fit, but I'm not sure how you'd wire one of those up?
I'll have to choose one or the other. With anodizing (black in particular) there may be tiny visible rack marks on the edges of the side panels. They can be...
I can't really guarantee that I could do that at this point. Would you like some photos of a black case with silver side panels on it?
In descending order: Black, Grey, Silver
I've only seen one request for red, and one for blue. I'd like to try bronze, but it's much more expensive to try...
For something like red/green/blue, I'd probably only need three or four people to do it. Most people are saying they want black, silver, or grey.
Thank you! I'm pretty optimistic that there will be another batch of cases. Before I do a batch I like to evaluate things, to see if there's...
Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably just leave it alone (no pun intended). :) Maybe through marketing (logo, writeup, etc) I can help put a positive spin on the name.
I've created a waiting list for the next batch of L3 cases, and includes colour preference. I'll probably use this to...
I'll be sure to start a new thread for any future cases. Wish I would've for the L3.
Glad you like the name. The main reason why I've been thinking about dropping the name is because I worry about the negative connotations the name has. I was going more for the positive connotations... but...
There's always a chance, but currently I have no plans to produce more cases. That may change once we get into winter.
I am also seriously considering dropping the Lone Industries name.
I have a few non-black L3 cases left that I was thinking of having re-anodized in black. I have been wanting to try hard anodizing, so just wondering if anyone would be interested in a hard black anodized L3?
UPDATE: Only one grey L3 left, so won't be worth re-anodizing after all. Still, if...
I'm glad you like the grey! Racking marks which are part of the anodizing process, are sometimes noticeable and would show bare aluminum. They're usually quite tiny though. On the side panels, racking marks would be found along the edges. If the scratches are anodized (no bare aluminum showing)...
I'm sure you already know this, but you could rotate your drives so the SATA cables are pointing up, giving you a space to mount the HDPlex.
Any idea what you'll build in the grey one?
That's great, glad it worked out this time. I see you added a couple pics to imgr of your grey L3 next to your silver one. Any thoughts on which one you like better?
That would make sense. The 75-90*C temps HWMonitor was reporting to me should have been hot to the touch. I don't have much experience with the HDPlex, but anytime I've maxed out a PicoPSU, my system just restarts (no blue screen). Sounds more like memory, or software to me. Oh well, the i3 4370...
Ya, that's probably not ideal blowing into the RAM. You can't rotate it like the NH-L9i eh?
I read that the AMD 7870k is supposed to come with a better cooler, so I'm interested to see how it compares to the L9a.
This morning I did a quick test with an Intel Xeon E3 1231 v3 (80W TDP) using...
Do you have an 80 mm case fan? The NH-L9a isn't large enough or close enough to the side panel, to push a significant amount of air out of the case on it's own. Works okay without a case fan on a low power i3, but I imagine you're right about the L9a just not being able to cool your CPU...
Ya, that's not good. You didn't happen to get it with the stock AMD cooler did you? Would be nice to test another cooler for comparison. Noctua does state that the NH-L9a is recommended for CPU up to 65W TDP. I use the NH-L9i on an i3 3225, which under load does also heat up, but within much...
I'm not familiar with the AMD 7870k, but I'd be really surprised if your stability issues are a result of a 56*C temp (though that does seem like a high idle temp), or anything to do with the NH-L9a. Are you overclocking? If it were me I'd first look at the HDPLEX and/or power brick. What...
I've noticed that with one of my ASUS motherboards, but not with a PicoPSU. It can be a little annoying sometimes, but not horrible. Have a Gigabyte motherboard and PicoPSU that thankfully doesn't make any noise. I don't think the brand matters. A coworker has a newer ASUS motherboard and...
Right, the PicoPSU-160-XT is 12V only. Mini-box.com does have some wide range PicoPSU, but they're lower wattage. There's also the wide range Pico-Box Z3-ATX-200, but they're taller than the PicoPSU-160-XT, and possibly violate Mini-box's patents. The Mini-box.com PicoPSU+AC adapter combos...
Yes, for sure. I would like to try different colours with each new batch. Not sure about red or blue though. The more people that request a certain colour, the more likely I'd give it a try. I personally would like to try dark bronze, but it's a lot more expensive because of the process...
Here's a photo I took back in April that shows the silver L3, with a grey L3 in the background. The silver (clear) can look almost white in some lighting.
Glad to hear!
Yes, black is easily the most popular (I only have two left). The silver and grey are equally nice looking, but don't match everything like black does. The silver (clear) matches Apple clear anodized hardware. The grey matches current Dell Ultra Sharp monitor bases fairly well...
Wish I could meet your front ports requirement, but I don't see it happening anytime soon unless I do a new HTPC specific model or something that's intended to be used in a tight cabinet. If you have any questions feel free to contact me directly.
Hey LucklessCebu, welcome to the forum!
I'm happy you like the case! Thanks for posting your L3 build. There's some great info in there. If you have some time it would be great to see some photos. :)
Received a Zotac ZT-70606-10M GTX 750 Ti low profile card today. Compared to the MSI, the fan on the Zotac seems to be spinning faster/louder. Pretty sure the MSI dual fans are slower/quieter (idle) had it not been for the one rubbing fan. The noise from the Zotac fan isn't terrible (idle...
These are your options as far as I know:
HDPLEX 160W (250W possibly if you don't need 2.5 inch drives)
Pico-Box Z3-ATX-200
Mini-box PicoPSU-80-WI, PicoPSU-120-WI
I'm not sure what end is on that based on the photo. Do you know the specs for the barrel connector? HDPLEX 160W "supports both...
The HDPlex 250 only fits along the front of the case with the 2.5 inch drives removed. I'd also switch motherboards, or look for a longer flexible 24 pin wire harness.
Looks like I have to return the MSI card. One fan is rubbing internally. Fans are part of the plastic shroud assembly, and...
