Thank you for your quick answer.
So I've installed the last OpenIndiana on a another boot disk and add napp-it but I can't import my pools because I've got an error :
"Could not proceed due to an error. Please try again later or ask your sysadmin.
Maybe a reboot after power-off may help...
Hi Gea,
After long time I've finally started my old server that I build 10 years ago under Esxi/OpenIndiana and napp-it.
Simple Nas with 3 pools I shared on SMB with all defaults (almost).
My Server is composed with :
¤ SuperMicro X8SIL-F-O
¤ X3430
¤ 16Gb DDR3 ECC
¤ 2 x IBM BR10i (LSI IT...
Thank you Gea for your quick reply, I appreciate :)
I think to stand on RaidZ because of space and it's fast enough...
Can I read temperatures of HDD in Napp-it ?
And what about power economy of HDD (spin-off) ?
After two months, I have received all hardware and I use napp-it on Open Indiana under ESXi
By the way, I've didn't easy choice between Napp-it and ZFSGuru ! :)
So for a test, I've did a pool raidz with 4 x Samsung 2T.
Are the benchmarks are good ?
My server :
¤ Norco 4220
¤ Corsair GX 800W
¤ SuperMicro X8SIL-F
¤ X3430
¤ 16Gb DDR3 ECC
¤ 3 x IBM BR10i
¤ Dell Perc 5i ( just for backup files)
¤ 1 x 160 Go 2.5"
¤ 8 x Western Digital Green 1To
¤ 4 x Samsung 2To
Hi everybody,
I try to use my Perc 5/i under ESXi (VMDirectPath) with a VM FreeNAS but if it is recognized, I can't access it.
I have an error in FreeNAS :
Mar 12 11:58:28 freenas kernel: mfi0: <Dell PERC 5/i> mem 0xdc800000-0xdc80ffff,0xd9c20000-0xd9c3ffff irq 18 at device 0.0 on pci3...
Thanks Gea & Omniscence !
I've read again the docs and I've found this :
VMDirectPath limits
VMDirectPath PCI/PCIe devices per host 8
VMDirectPath PCI/PCIe devices per virtual machine 4
So It's Okay for me
I don't think, I should say that HT can even reduce in virtualization...
But I never tried, I've bought too a X3430 :D
Experts can confirmed
So what doing
And where to buy a 1068 controller ? I don't find them on eBay and between us I prefer to use an expander with the motherboard because of the price and the other hand I still have my 2 Perc5i, maybe I keep them ?
I can change too the motherboard (X8SIL-F) and going...
Thanks everybody and Gea ;)
So my config will be :
¤ Norco 4220
¤ Corsair GX 800W
¤ SuperMicro X8SI6-F
¤ X3430
¤ 16Gb DDR3 ECC
¤ SAS Expander
¤ 1 x 160 Go 2.5"
¤ 8 x Western Digital Green 1To
¤ 4 x Samsung 2To
(not yet in bold)
One more thing, if I run FreeNAS (virtualized)...
Interesting but I would like to use Bittorrent + Sabnzbd in my server.
Is it possible to use them in VM under VMWare ESXi ?
One other thing, the Core i3 doesn't have VT-d...
Okay I think about all this and the best solution is to change my configuration with a server motherboard and IPMI with KVM support.
I would take :
¤ SuperMicro X8SI6-F
¤ Intel Core i3-550
¤ 4x2Gb DDR3 ECC
¤ HP Sas Extender
But I wonder if software Raid5 doesn't take much time in...
My reasons are multiples but the most important is I want more support of my Perc5i because there are no smart on my disks and no hard disk standby time.
I want to be able to install some WM.
And I would like to simply install some addins like Sabnzbd, CouchPotato,.. because on FreeNas is...
Okay for the memory, I'll think about it.
And for the migration, I still don't know how I'm doing it, perhaps with 2 pc and a Perc5i on each.
There are only one Perc used on FreeNas and one array of 8 x 1To so I can use the other Perc and a array of 4 x 2To on a other pc for the...
